Plugging and Re-tapping a shaft

If done correctly it should remain as good as it was.

It seems to me that the shaft hits a little softer than before and once it a while I feel a little bit of a give or buckle on a shot.

Then who ever did it, didn't do it right. The out side of the shaft doesn't change and
it's against the face of the cue. Most shafts have phenolic collars and that's not changed at all.
Maybe the shaft wasn't faced correctly after the repair. The repair should be unnoticeable.
 
I have to / get to :) agree with Steve, something wasn't done right.
Same pin, same joint collar, just a bore, dowel, bore and tap, right?
And what does a "buckle" feel like? Threads slipping?
Anyway, it's not as if it couldn't be done again by someone else with better results.
On the other hand, I feel badly for you that you can notice a difference - the anticipation of that buckle or whatever can really play with your mind and hence your game.

Shaft was plugged and retapped because there was a buzz noise, probably the threading was loose.

Tip was changed, but it is the same tip I always use, Kamui Black Medium. I might change it again to see how if it helps.

Maybe buckle is not the right word, just a slight give or vibration sometimes, but I am a very sensitive player.
