Pocket Liner Installation

Any tips on installing new plastic pocket liners? Do you put them in hot water to mold into exact shape of pocket? How do you attach to pocket?
etc?

Pool table is probably about 100 years old. Table purchased over 40 years ago from an old pool hall going out of business in PA with my paper route money. Refurbished along side my grandfather as a kid and learned to play in my parent’s basement. Recently restored it again when I move it form my parent’s home to my home were my son is now learning to play in our basement.

Tag under table says it’s from the Harrington Billiards Co in Allentown PA. I’ve tried some web searches to find out about company, age and worth of table but no luck. It has wooded gulleys for ball returns. A three-piece slate, oversized 8’ design.

Picture shows my problem. Original red pocket liners no longer sit properly in pockets. I’ve purchased some softer black rubber liners, but before I attempt to install was looking for some tips to best do it.

Thanks in advance you’re your reply - Mike

Take off one pocket liner and show us a pic of the liner removed" a pic of just the liner and a pic of just the empty pocket.. U can also look to see where it was once attached.
Thanks-

WOW! just when you thought you seen it all. You do know that is NOT how that pocket is supposed to be. Pocket liners are for modern rail tables and are nailed into wood.

You have #6 iron pockets that are wrapped in leather that should have a leather inside shield that the ball hits. There is no plastic on antique leather pockets. What probably happened was the leather was so far deteriorated that someone decided to attach plastic liners in front of.

This is not the proper way so if you are going to do this you will have to be creative.

Thanks for the replies.

I noticed after I took the pictures that it appears as if there is some electrical tape on the pocket I took a picture of. I can assure you there is no electrical tape.

I think you are probably correct though, the table was so old we we got it that I think someone from the original pool hall must have put these liners in as the pockets worn away.

Guess its time to get creative or look at buying all new leather pockets.

Sure looks like electrical tape in the pic.
Regardless, the pockets look trashed but you would come out less expensive having them refurbed compared
to trying to buy new since that style of shield may be difficult to obtain off the shelf.

Pocket pocket liners

That is really something else, thank you for the picture. The table is in great condition for its age, the proper pockets will go a long way in making the table look and play as it should. Contact me direct at 215-622-8899 so I can quote you on having the pockets retooled. Thanks again
