The ends of each rail rubber has one "shim" or "pocket liner" standard. If tighter pockets are desired, the lowest cost method is to add a second shim. Adding more than two will create a bad attack angle which may cause the balls to be rejected. The best method and most expensive method is to replace and extend the rail rubber and the wood backing.

I am just new to pool and I was wondering what you mean when you talk about pocket shimming as I have never heard of this term before?
