Pocket shims

Idle questions about pocket shims...

Are they of a standard thickness? That is, do they reduce pocket width by a predictable amount, or do you have to trim each shim?

How many shims do you prefer? In other words, how tight do you like your pockets?

There's a room in Denver that boasts the town's only quadruple-shimmed money table. When I jam two balls into the corner jaws, the cue ball just bounces off of them like it hit a brick. Is that too tight? :-) Those pockets sure separate the A- players from the A's.

shims are uniform. the only cutting is to shape, not thickness.

pockets are shimmed with pocket facing material, which is (wild guess) around 1/8" thick, maybe a little thicker. all pockets have one facing, but double-shimmed is popular. i've seen double-shimmed pockets on a diamond 9' respond the same way you mentioned (2 balls jammed, firm CB rejected).
