I have an old pool table I was wondering if you may be able to answer a couple questions for me please.

The table is a Rozel Gold Cup. The best I can find is the table is from around 1965 when Minnesota Fats was an honorary vice president. Also it appears that it is a knock off of a Gold Crown III from the same time period. I have not been able to find out anything else really about it.

One question I have it the pocket size. It seems that tables from that time had huge pockets compared to today. The corners nose to nose are 5 1/4 and sides are 5 1/2. It appears to have the original cushions and they seem fine. If anything they are soft. The cushions are Masterfast K66. They are not dried out or nothing. I bought my cloth from Muellers and it is the Granito Basalt and is only 2 days old. The table plays EXTREMELY fast... Almost to fast... If you shoot 3 rails from the corner you normally aim at the second diamond with running english. Not here.... The table plays an entire diamond or more fast. You have to aim at the third diamond with running and is the same from any corner. It don't seem to me that it should play like this but I am not sure. If you aim at the second diamond the cue will go three rails and hit between the first and second diamond on the end rail.

The openings in the slate for the side pockets stick out past the rails an inch. So there is no running a ball down the rail. I assume the slate is factory to the table by looking at it. There is no adjustments for the rails. So I am wondering if maybe this may have been a standard in the mid 60's. or either the slate has been changed or shaved bigger. In one of the pictures I was measuring the side pocket opening and you can see in it how much the hole for the side pocket is.

bigger sides than standard. but the pockets on many tables were bigger, but on some were close to the tight pockets of today's too tight tables.

these old tables were fun to play on as you could make balls without being a great shooter. you could also fudge them in and play better position. remember nine ball wasnt the main pool room or home game played.
i pity the poor souls that want to learn pool and go to a place with super tight pockets. all they learn is that pool is no fun.
