Points question

The goal is the same with all cues with points, for them to be even. SP's are generally less expensive than a full blown custom build and may not have the same attention to detail. Also, most SP's are built from blanks purchased from other sources and completed by the cue builder at his/her shop.

Many SPs have uneven points purposefully...

I agree with AFF, although I have seen some cues that looked pretty good. I think the idea is to portray & cheap cue, even if it's a jointed cue (the reason the joints don't have collars) JMHO

Good Luck...

Regular four point SP, are the points supposed to be even or all diffrent lengths?

If it is made from one of those full splice blanks that themselves can very expensive, absolutely they should be even. If it just built from an old house cue you do the best you can. Primarily in your selection of the cue you start with. Uneven points can be brought closer in how you turn it, but when using a house cue to start with there is a certain amount of unevenness that is acceptable.

I think a lot of that over the years went by the wayside. When Sneaky Pete's first came out it was to depict the idea it was a house cue or cheap cue and that worked in the beginning. I remember a bar maid once grabbing me around the neck in the parking lot thinking I was stealing a cue till I unscrewed it showing her it was mine. What changed was, later anyone who came in with a sneaky pete it was assumed was a player. The cues themselves became a knock and if you came in with a sneaky pete you attracted attention. Much more so then just an inexpensive production cue like what most of the other people in the room were playing with.
