Poison Jmp Brk VX 2.9 vs VX4

I have a friend that posed me a question I cannot answer, thought someone here might.

He had a while back purchased a poison VX 2.9 Jump break cue, recently he purchased the newer version the VX4.

He claims he spoke with someone at Predator before it was bought and was told the only difference in the cues was that the uni-loc radial joint pin was replaced with a Uni-lok Bullet joint. He has them both and swears they do not feel the same, he does not like the VX4.

Last night he brought them both so that I could try them out, I believe him. The action on the 2.9 is far stiffer. Breaks responded quicker, louder and the spreads were better.
They definitely do not play the same.

Is there that much a difference in the joint?

Well the question has to be asked: are the tips the same and are the tapers the same? Not what they are sold as, but what you yourself tested them as.

I use the VX 4 and i had a radial pin poison playing cue. The radial pin and phenolic joint definitely provide more feel than the bullet joint.

Also if the 2.9 used the venom 1 shaft over the venom 2, i'm pretty sure the venom 1 had a stiffer hit and slightly thicker taper.

I prefer the VX4 because it mean's both my poison cues and backup shafts fit on each other, but the radial pin on my old poison definitely went together more solidly. It was a good joint.

Both shafts had the same taper [as far as I could tell without a micrometer] and the same tip. Looking at the poison website I saw no mention of a Ver 1 or a Ver 2 shafts. The only visible difference I saw was the joints. I am sure that the feel of the cue is affected by the type of joint, that's a given. And I guess i should have been clearer --- Do you feel it would it affect the hit?

Haven't tried either cue but imo there is a noticeable difference the feel of a cue with a radial pin. I know two shafts can be "identical," but I've tried two near identical shafts on with a radial pin and other pin's such as a uniloc, 3/8x10 modified and regular, granted they were on different butts, with varying collars, but have tried radial with SS joint collars, wood to wood collars, phenolic around the wood collars, but no matter anything with the radial pins were always more snug fitting and also had a more solid "woody" tone and powerful hit. Yes tips, ferrulle's and tapers also play a part but all were as close to the same as they could be, and all the tips were in the realm of medium soft to medium, Ultraskin SIB medium or pro's to be exact.

This is only my personal opinion and experience so take it as you will.

imo there is a noticeable difference the feel .

That's my question exactly. I know it FEELS different, but will it actually perform different.
I always thought that the feel is my interpretation of what the cue is doing, so if you like a more solid or mechanical or softer feel the joint is where that change is affected.

But given two identical cues with exception of the joint, they would play the same. That is to say that the same stroke on the same cues with different joints FEELS different but the action and reaction of the cue ball would be the same.

I am now starting to think different.
