Polishing out scatches

I have some light scratches in my cue butt.
I'd light to try to polish some of them out.
What's the best method or grade of paper i should use?

I would put it on a lathe and use a polishing compound or scratch removing automotive polish first. If that doesnt work, try wet sanding with 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 8000, 12,000 then polish again.

A lot depends on how deep those so called scratches are.

Just use rubbing compound first. You don't need sandpaper for light scratches.
