I remember speaking with the Diamond guys at the Vegas BCA tournament 2 years ago and I was impressed at what lengths they had gone to determine what color would provide the best play. They were very scientific in their approach and it has paid off. From the first time I had a chance to play on one of their tables I have liked the color of the cloth. I believe it just makes everthing easier to see.

Last year the BCA of Texas state championships were held in Killeen TX at the convention center there. There were no table lights, only the lights that were on the ceiling some 30 or so feet above. It was the first time that our team did not have to immediately run to the tables for our next match just so we could get some time in on those tables. Every table in the house played the same, all 60 or more of them. I was never in a situation that I felt that I needed more light.

Thanks Diamond Tables for both the special blue cloth and the Diamond Smart Table. Big Hits!!

"Tournament Blue" is the Simonis color used by Diamond. The color was selected due to reduced eyestrain, and the ease of seeing the balls.

Another little tidbit... notice how similar the color is to your opening screen of "Windows" on your PC. Microsofts study actually had something to do with this cloth color selection.

I believe it was Billiard Digest that did a study on cloth color years ago. As I remember, the study showed that green was easiest on the eyes for long periods of time.

Years ago, a room owner in town decided he was going to spruce his place up by putting red cloth on his tables.
I told him that it really wasn't a good idea because I remembered what that article said. I told him red was the most aggresive color and hardest on the eyes.

Two things happened. His table time dropped drastically and the numbers of fights and arguments skyrocketed.

Six months later, all the tables were recovered in green cloth. An expensive lesson.

Personally, being color blind, I don't care as long as the table has six pockets and balls.

I like the dark green best at home but I have very good lighting. Without good lighting, the Electric Blue is best. But I think that this is just a sign of aging.

I prefer blue over green. Blue goes well with other colors of the color wheel than green. Whether if ur attempting to play with the balls on the table or determining the best cloth color for your rec room.

Now I must admit, I've played on green, red, blue, black, gray, and tan with Green being mostly played on. When it comes to playability, I still prefer to play on blue first and green, the other; tan & red being less preferred.

I've always preferred green. Although I will definitely be in the minority on this one I've never really minded red felt either.

A friend here who is a rabid Broncos fan had his table done with navy blue felt on the lsate and orange felt on the rails (or vice versa, I forget).

I haven't seen the table yet but it has to be garish. :P

I have seen a couple tables that have college logos in the center of the table with the cloth color one of the school colors.

I play on a simonis green and like it. My son in law has a black simonis felt on his table - I played on it over thanksgiving --- nice.

I have done a few of those. We recently did a University of Georgia table. Bright red cloth with a big G in the middle.

It sucked putting on trying to get it stretched right.

I've heard that studies proved that blue was the best overall color for visibility and less strain on the eyes.

I like the Green, but probably only cause it is the most common.

But, if there is a color that would best aid in ability to the see the shot / angle, then I'd support the change. If it's truly better than it should become the new standard, despite what's been done in the past...

DCC and the US Open both use the "Tournament BLue" by Simonis.

We have HOT and I do mean HOT Pink cloth at our shop. We haven't done any yet. But there is a store here in Atlanta that has Pink Cloth. And above it hangs a Harley Davidson light. I won't reveal the company but it cracks me up.

We do a lot of Black or Tan. Green is probably the color we do the least. Especially Tournament Green.

What's even odder is I can almost stereotype someone from the cloth color they get. Especially if I know the color of the table. I can tell you from just seeing the table and cloth color where the table is going. What race the person will be. Wether they have kids or not. And many other variables.

I just love Tournament Green. But would consider Dark Green.

There used to be a place here in Az called Pinky's, and all of the tables there were covered in the hot pink cloth, and the waitstaff all wore hot pink as well. Very straining on the eyes
