That’s not a easy table. Watch the video for a while and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Playing in equipment like that will make tourney new cloth/tables feel like a cake walk. Humid as hell, old cloth, hot, all are factors that make that box tough action. And toughen up players for nice new shiny equipment.
I was joking about the pockets................I grew up on tables that make that look new, we called the pool hall
the shithouse, or dungeon.
Old rag cloths with holes in it,,,,, beverage stains,,,, heat track marks that glowed,,,,cig burns on the cloth and rails,,,, ashes on the table,,,,,no ac in summer,,,,barely heat in the winter....so humid they charged extra for sauna,,,,the balls were so dirty the 5 ball looked purple.... when you chalked, the tip popped thru the bottom,,,,old radio on the counter that was a struggle to dial in a station, there was no bunting balls ,everybody had a big stroke, strong power strokes.,,,you had to be smooth or you were slugging
You had to break open a rack of 14.1 with a bowling ball.
Our 3 cushion table was the same way.....you needed a running start to get 3 rails,,,nevermind 4 or 5 rails.
All true,,,except for the sauna charge. I could go on and on.
There were great players,,,I watched Sailor Bill run hundreds daily, and play 3 cushion. Bill had a table pretty much reserved for him unless it was needed as last resort. I was his rack boy, eventually gaining opportunity to play and learn from him. Straight Pool was king, but we played every game, there was no such thing as funsies, cash after every hand is the term we used, we always played by the game, no sets. You had to show your cash, you weren't playing 9 ball $5.00 a game with $15.00 in your pocket. With $15.00 you got Pill Pool action for 50 Cents.
When Petey Margo opened The Golden Cue it was a new day for us. It was like walking into Yankee Stadium for your first time and seeing that field. It was beautiful, you got goosebumps.. Nice equiptment, lights, controlled temps, and great players. It's where I first met Miz.
We still went back to the dungeon for action, there were guys that didn't like change and refused to move on.
I was bored sitting here waiting for my wife, I ended up rambling.
