I just received the balls today. They came from Italy, if this may help. So maybe they are indeed for a local 5-pin game or something like Goriziana…

They came in a normal Aramith carom package




The red has 5 white dots on one side, and the Saluc logo on the back side

Another thing I got, are these old Elefant balls. Could not find any information about them at all. I thought they are old Boccette balls. But newer ones are 59mm and these are about 57mm

I received Centennials today, which were sold as ‚with small scratches because they are vintage‘. Would this still be acceptable under this description? And what would these be worth? They are the newer Aramith ones, so not very collectable either, even though they are old…

Am I a bit too picky, or am I right that this will affect game play behaviour?

I would not find that 2 ball acceptable. Of course if it were on the listing pictures, that's not the seller's fault.

I agree. That is not a 'scratch' on the 2 ball, but a 'chip'.

Unless that was accurately reflected in the posting, I wouldn't find that acceptable.

Great post, RC. It put me on a Five Pin binge using skinny Legos. Ironically, the pockets get in the way but it's a lot of fun. A proper carom set and skittles are on the horizon.

I paid 50,- for them. But the damages were not on the listing pictures and the descreption was ‚condition see pictures‘. As follows:



I could not see any damage in there, but asked before buying to be sure. So he replied that he checked every ball and they only have minor surface scratches. And he compared them with balls in a billiard cafe, and his look way better. So i bought them, and received those chipped balls. I think every cafe in my area would throw such balls away…

I replied with a message, that i was a bit unhappy and explained the situation but got no response for 2 days. I had to file a complaint then, because of the platform time limitations to do so. Then he told me again, that he checked before purchase and explained me the condition (still without pictures of the chipped parts before i bought), and offered me 20,- back. I accepted and received a postitive review with a poop smiley in the text

As if this was my fault at all, and i would have been happy with a smaller refund as well. He offered me this in the end

Not sure what you expected out of $50 Centennials. Clearly his definition of "minor surface scratches" is pretty liberal. I ALWAYS ask if there are any chips or nicks on the balls and would expect some given the price paid.

I did specifically ask for scratches or damages, and the answer was clearly only scratches. I don’t know what can be misinterpreted in my question.

And of course I expected used balls with signs of playwear. I would have been absolutely fine with that. I am not sure if they are rare, as they are still sold. As they are made by Aramith, I just can compare them to their balls of similar quality. Here in Europe their resale value is often way under 30% of their retail price, if they are still in production. And that for good second hand quality, most of my balls look nearly new. As you can see by the 5 dotted carom set I recently posted.

The seller didn’t provide an honest description. If you’re also a seller I suggest listing the acceptable ones individually as replacement balls and starting over with a better set. Nothing all that collectible about centennials unless you find the TV Tour Edition.

I am more of a player, but not on a professional level. I tried them yesterday and did not see any big problems. So I will just keep them, and maybe replace the 3 worst balls, if I can find replacements somewhere

They look really nice!

And cleaning was the first thing I did as well. I cleaned them over 1h by hand with ball restorer and ball cleaner by Aramith. Only then I checked them carefully, to judge them in the best condition I can achieve for them

These look old Hyatt centennials from the 70's early 80's before Aramith took over the contract. While certainly collectible I would not consider them highly playable balls.

Is the line under the 6 and 9 straight or curved?
