I heard one guy in a post say that pool cant become financially sensible for schools. Then why do we spend 1,000,000$$$ on golf courses for schools. Ten tables would run under 50,000, and a cue is cheaper than a set of golf clubs by a lot.....Pool is also a far better sport, i know just like earl does, lol. Ok, now we just have to make pool popular,,,, why cant somebody with some cash like JA SVB ES donate towards a newer film being produced, have a az member donation to get it started. Or have Brad pitt play SVB in a race to 30 on a reality show, if Brad Pittt makes it to 15 wins then SVB has to donate money to charity, if not Brad pitt donates... use anybody famous and have them train for a few months to try and win as many games as they ca for charity. Billiards just needs a a small push to blow up!!!!! just one celebrity to promote the game, or just one more &*&&ing poolmovie that has a decent budget.

What school has space available for 10 pool tables!?

And what school is dropping a million on a golf course!?

Schools use public golf courses, the students bring their own golf clubs. Schools use public bowling alleys, the students bring their bowling ball. Most schools use public swimming pools like the local y, each student buys his or hers own team bathing suit.
Could you imagine someone walking into the y and having someone come up to you saying "do you want to swim a lap for $10. "
Schools that have ping pong teams or clubs are able to fold up the table and put it in a closet. I taught for 32 years and never saw a school with extra space to put 2 or 3 pool tables. Too many schools don't have enough classrooms.

What makes you think I want my kids learning pool over bowling, golf, or really any other sport besides poker?

I agree with the part about a celebrity charity tournament. Brad Pitt and SVB vs. Johnny Archer and Justin Bieber. People make huge donations to charity all the time...it's just that this time there's a competition involved.

Problem is that celebrities are so busy that none have the time to develop a half-way decent pool game; and they don't want to embarrass themselves.

I think the schools have bigger problems to solve than expanding their extra-cirricular activities.

I'd really like to see ISD's/universities slash sports budgets and get some frikkin' security/protection for the students!!!

OK, seriously, why is it that everyone assumes that because they enjoy something (like pool), that everyone else is going to enjoy it or give one single flying f*ck about promoting it???

Pool promoter= PP
Brad Pitt= BP
Justin Beiber= JB

PP- Hello Mr. Pitt, please come play a pool exhibition with Justin Bieber and some pool pros you have never heard of so we can promote the game of pool.

BP- Why would I want my name and image associated with pool?

PP- Because pool is cool.

BP- Hhmmm, tempting, but I think I may be better of doing something that actually goes towards helping a cause or supporting something I actually like doing.

PP- But pool is cool and we really need some big celebrity name to get pool going again!

BP- So me playing in this exhibition is going to do what?

PP- It is going to attract attention and new players to this great game I love which would be super sweet!

BP- Pairing me and Justin Bieber up with pool pros so everyone can see how bad we look compared to our partner, but at the same time watch the pro play are really not be all that impressed because pool is not exciting to watch is going to make pool more popular?

PP- Ya know, f*ck you Brad Pitt, this isn't Mission Impossible 7 buddy. How about you Justin Bieber?

JB- Yeah, that sounds cool and all, but I am worried about being associated with that kind of image.

PP- I am trying to clean up the image! Plus the calcutta will be huge! And hey, don't worry if someone trying to get you to dump, there is not a lot of money in pool right now so it is OK for the pros to do whatever they need to do to get by.

Lol, have them train for a few months and play Shane in a set to try to beat him??

Bwhahahahah

BTW, i'm not trying to knock your thread. Everyone always has ideas. Action is what will get things going. If you really want pool to become popular, help start it out at the local level. If you want it ingrained into society, try to get funding for it at public schools, clubs, etc. Letters and visits to your representatives, meetings at town halls, city elections, etc. all help. Get people involved, make an incentive to play, and hopefully they get hooked just like the rest of us.

Doing that is easier said than done. Getting SVB and Archer to donate their money for a pool movie is pulling at strings. Not sure how rich you think these guys are, but a pool player's salary isn't the best. :P

We reserve about 10 tables for 3 schools quite often...at our room.
It's a regular class, not extra-curricular.
The price we charge is minimal.
Schools with tables aren't practical...there are better ways to spend the $.

I play both pool and golf and irrespective of the costs involved here's what it comes down to.

1. Golf is outdoors and involves some exercise, I'd rather have my kids outside and walking 6000-7000 yards than in a pool hall for 4 hours.
2. You can actually make a lot of money playing pro golf, what do you think parents are going to push their kids at?
3. You can get a scholarship to a good university/college for golf, if you can get the NCAA to include pool then maybe you'll get more interest.
3. I've never seen a junior pool league, junior pool memberships at pool halls... etc. Not saying they aren't out there, just that I've never seen one before while every public golf course here has junior memberships.

On A Positive note:

- It's your idea and you seem to have the answers. All you need to do now is implement your ideas.

- Make your calls, type your emails and get your answers.

Don't be put off simply because you might die trying... :)

LUCK - Where opportunity meets preparation

GOOD LUCK
Sincerely

not beat svb him but get half of his wins or even a quarter, I do what i can locally. Ive goten a lot of people involved with pool over the past 10 years. ex[ecially the last 3 years. I just think it needs a little push, i want there to be more people to play. Other than that ill enjoy it just the same. someone said they would rather have thier kids, play golf. ok, cool. im having my first kid in a a week or so and im going to encourage him to take pool as a his main sport because its the best game in the world. i took other sports more serious than pool and wish i wouldnt have. im probably a better basketball/baseball player than pool p[lAYER because of it. Pool isnt good exercise but its THE SPORT I want my son involved with the most. MY reasoning for this could take up a whole book, lol. I love sports but pool exceeds all others to me. MMA is up there though

Imagine the Mosconi Cup, but with 2 American pro's playing and coaching 3 high-profile American entertainers.........vs. 2 European pro's and their 3 high-profile European entertainers. Mixing and matching up, just like the MC. No, I don't mean that a pro would face an entertainer heads up, but they could in the "mixed" Scotch Doubles portion of the format.

I think Johnny Archer and Brad Pitt vs. Darren Appleton and Daniel Craig.....in the middle of the cacophony that is York Hall.....would be pretty interesting to watch. Provided the entertainers were trained, of course. They train those people on "Dancing with the Stars", right? And there's no reason that show should be successful at all, except that the MSM tells you that it's good. And people go along with it. Lemming behavior.

Anyway, I think it's pretty simplistic to think that "regular" people will watch pool if we just turn it into a gentleman's game. Truth is.......it needs the hardcore edge just like every other sport has out there.

No one watches NASCAR for the left turn. They watch for the wreck. Or the occasional pit road brawl. No one watches wrestling for "grappling" anymore. Or fantastic technical skill (yes, I know it's scripted). They watch it for the trash-talking and the testosterone release. No one watches boxing for slick jabs and defense. They want to see the pre-fight weigh-in, complete with the face-off, trash talk....culminating with a knock-out deep in the fight. All the while with money on the line.

I'm not suggesting violence. I just don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to market pool to an edgy, fringe network based upon the premise of gambling, trash-talking and great pool. Doesn't even have to be pro's. Could be good shortstops or A-level players. The masses would think they were as good as the pro's anyway, for all they know.

Again.......if anyone has seen the show "Pinks".......I always think of that, but with pool. Heck, the pre-game woofing, just to figure out the spot would probably draw better ratings that then Mohegan Sun World Trick Shot Exhibition.

It's ALL about conflict, folks. That's what drives any sport or form of entertainment. It's conflict. A protagonist and an antagonist.

But, that's me. And I'm just a banger. Or am I?

People dont even know pro pool exists, thats a huge problem. they think its a game that is easily mastered. Its exactly the opposite. One network to carry something besides espn. ..
