Break and One

Hey Everyone, Thinking of starting up a new venture and hoping to get some feedback from the pool community. This would be a hat made of pool cloth. I know this was created once before but am unable to get in touch with the person who created them originally.

The hats are made out of what is considered the best pool cloth available. Tournament blue cap with black bill. These hats are made in America. The exact price is estimated between 25 to 40 dollars depending on a few variable. I am just trying to get an idea if their is a market for these and it is worth pursuing. So a few questions if you were interested in the hat:

Would you prefer the look of worn fabric or new fabric?
Do you prefer a logo or no logo, the way it is now?

Any help is appreciated.

I don't usually wear hats, especially while playing but I really like the look of this one. Clean and pool related without being over the top. I like new cloth.

Demand

If this is going to work, you will have to create demand for a cap of that price. I would play with it some, make a few and see. If you can attach it to a clothing line or a something of that nature....maybe.

How would you retail it? That might matter.

I think it's a cool idea and I'd buy on, but wouldn't pay anymore than $20, maybe $25 tops and that's just because it's a total novelty and probably wouldn't wear it that much. Also, I think worn cloth would be WAY better - especially if you could get your hands on specific cloth. Ie , from the table SVB three peated etc. I think it does need a logo ( depending on what it looks like ). Good luck! Cool idea!

PS - 100 % make sure it's a Flex Fit Hat!!! Production cost will be higher but it will be worth every penny. Anyone that wears hats Will know exactly what I'm talking about. Actually at this point I won't wear anything but a Flex Fit period.

If it is made from actual table cloth then it won't be able to be flex fit, the cloth will be far too strong to achieve that level of flexibility.

I'm sure you know more about hat construction than myself but; just from my limited knowledge I believe Simonis 860 to be thinner and way more flexible than what a typical quality hat is made of ( to the point id think it may need to be backed actually )and the " Flex Fit " part I speak of is the " head band " portion at the bottom of the dome. It is what fits the hat to your head kinda like elastic although I have no idea what it's actually made from. Being that typically hats are made from 6 panels and sewn together I kinda think it might not be that hard to attach to the " Flex Fit " portion. I'm only offering you up this because as I mentioned about myself only buying the " Flex Fit " hats now, and pretty much every one of my friends are the same way now too. They just always seem to be leeps and bounds better quality than all the others and most importantly they always seem to fit " just right " lol. Good luck and keep us updated !

As of right now it is a snap back hat. And the main purpose for that is the multitude of sizes it can become, even a flex fit comes in different sizes usually small/med, med/lrg and xl and I would prefer not to have to stock different sizes.

The worn fabric is what will help keep the cost down, the higher price I stated would be for a hat that has new cloth which means I would be purchasing an entire roll or a table amount. But worn cloth can be harder to come by.

I have thought about the clothing line to establish with it but there are already several that exists and this is something a little different then what they offer.

I appreciate everyone's help and opinions so far. I would like to hear from the people who vote no and wouldn't wear it if it was free. This is a new idea so any help is appreciated.

Keep it coming.

Actually it does not look different than a regular ball cap needs logos maybe a joint venture is in order , by company's that already has patches , Predator , Mezz , OB , Tiger , ....to name a few

As to the fabric : of course this depends on the volume you sell but just guessing here but let's say you can get what - 50??? HATS from a single full size cloth then there is quite a bit of materials available to you and more availing every year. As to cost, I'm quite sure just about all pool hall owners would be more than happy to sell you their take offs. As it is now there is an absolutely tiny market for selling take offs to be reused on a smaller table size. Aside from that what, break clothes??? Lol. As far as design I think worn is superior to new by far, so that is in your favor as far as cost. Just a suggestion, in addition to whatever your company logo is your could offer almost countless other options to put on the hat. I like it, I'll buy one. Are any available at this early time ? Pm ordering info and I'm down.

Ps- you did say you wanted honest opinions. Just imo, I think snap backs are the worst. I understand why they are appealing to you as business owner but the truth is most people that really like baseball hats and wear them and have dozens don't buy them. It's all fitted pretty much.

Like the idea and would definitely by one, but as previous poster stated, it would need to be a fitted/flex fit. Can't stand hats with the "snap thing" in the back for adjusting size. Also would like to see some sort of pool related logo on the front, such as a 8ball or 9ball.

Cloth

I've got used simonis760,simonis860,simonis860HR,championship 30/30 and a few others in the warehouse.
I've also got new cloth for days~>

The only one I would consider is a well made baseball cap; otherwise I'm just not a hat-guy.

But yeah, a Simonis Tournament Blue body with a Tan brim would be cool. But it might be pretty hot; unstretched Simonis 860 is actually pretty thick (70-80% wool?).

It has some novelty......max market price is $25.00......after that, you can get better hats and materials for
the hat you choose to wear. How breathable is the fabric because it gets hot under a cap with cotton, Dacron,
etc, which lead to vented cap designs? Remember, this is a pool cloth that should have a measure of durability
attached......but it could get warm underneath & the sweat marks might look awful.

Me personally I like the green better just because most may regonize it but that doesn't mean i won't buy both, I am the guy who bought both color of the shemagh hat just to be the guy with the only shemagh hat around.
This however i'd want once that has a few ball marks in it just to show battle fatigue.

Ok so i finally read the comments. I would take two if they were fitted or flex not really interested in snap backs, also the only logo i'd be interested in for now is if you were some how able to (doesn't have to be exactly that or exactly there) get a Spot onto the hat. I was thinking about the very top where the nub is but in the front or in the back would suit me just fine.

Hey everyone sorry not posting, I am going to look into flex fit options, as stated I am worried the fabric may not be conducive for a flex fit hat. I can say I do prefer fitted hats actually. So I am going to look into my options. But here is a question?

Would you prefer a leather buckle type hat over snap back?

Also I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your info and feedback. As of now I am still planning on going forward with this. Just trying to figure some details out. Also trying to possibly come up with a logo or something for the hat.

Once again thank you.
