What is everyone doing for cue cases? I hate when my butts hit each other when putting in the case as they always seem a tight fit, I have used a 4x8 JB hard case and a 3x5 Urbain. I usually carry 2 palying butts and a break cue. I just ordered some sleeves from JB to put the butts in, this will help with sliding in the grip on my break cue as it always sticks, Im thinking about getting a 4x8 butterfly from Castillo, has anyone used this butterfly case? Thanks.

I have a JB 3x6, a lot of good things about it and some I don’t like.
I usually take it out when I want a separate jump cue and a break cue or if I want two playing cues.
I tried to go the butterfly route and I got the Pagulayan 4x8 case, nice case but I guess that butterfly cases are really not for me.
On 8 ball league nights when I use a jump-break cue I’ll grab my old faithful OG 2x4 Predator case (made by Instroke).
I have a bunch of other cases that I use for storage.
I want a light 3x5 case, just haven’t stumbled on anything that I really like or answer my requirements…

I bought a used Whitten 25 years ago and still use it as my main case, just saying.

I own and have owned many brands of cases from low to high in price range.
Regarding the JB upright case - yes very well constructed, yes great cue protection , but, for me, with higher end cues- a 3x5 , fully loaded , the fit is too tight- I can’t get the cues in and out without touching each other and seeing high friction against linen wraps. His older GTF cases had similar issues for me and I sold it even though I loved the design.
Look. The guy had to produce a video to show us how to load and unload a cue case!!
I don’t ever turn a cue case upside down - with cues inside- such a tight fit makes no sense to me- his butterfly case probably makes more sense if you really want such a snug fit.
I found in tournaments, when you are constantly removing and inserting various cues and shafts that the JB super tight fit is just impractical- no knock on his quality it is top shelf.
Whitten, Justis, even Instroke do me just fine- more economical - the older Acme cases were great- light and strong IMO.

Don't get a butterfly case unless you like to take your time packing up. Have to find a flat surface that is not being use and it takes up too much space just to get your cues out. Was a PITA. Currently I have a Jacoby XL case 3x5 and a Elight pool case. The problem is that it seems that nobody today is making a good case that combines good protection and covers modern needs.
Some butterfly cases do but if you’re looking a hard top loading case, there aren’t many options.
That is a Whitten -- Ernie ships his cues in them.

I have an inexpensive (~$100) top-loading case. I have never used a butterfly case. I hang the case on a chair back or in a corner and keep my cues in the case, with the exception of the cue in my hand. I have seen far too many cues have the tip fly off after having been leaned against a table with a table-edge claw and being knocked over in the sometimes tight confines of the hall at league night. In the case, my cues won't get knocked over and hit the floor. It's a minor pain retrieving my break cue from the case, but since I don't get to use it very often it doesn't bother me. LOL, yeah, if I won more racks I'd be breaking more often.
I'm a huge fan of the JB Rugged 2x5 interior design. This design has the butts at the outside "points" of the oval shape which gives them just a bit more room and a little less of a tight fit than the other designs. The central shaft slot also works great to hold a jump cue butt since those are thinner than a playing cue. So I can carry my player with 2 shafts, my break cue and my jump cue and then put my extension in the external jump butt pocket.
I use a case made by Al King that uses a JB interior, it's a beautifully built case and I would highly recommend a King for anyone looking for a real high quality leather case.
