Love mine, the quality, zippers and protection is top notch. Also like that is accommodates any size butt/shaft. I even leave 1.75” on my main cue….
Pool cue cases

I have a butterfly case but quit using it because the shoulder strap detached, I like my butterfly much better than my top loader. When I arrive at a facility to play I will unload my cue on an empty table if available, if not a regular table works, if not available the chair I sit in will also work. If there are no chairs I can unload by standing my case up and just unzipper it partially, the cues slide right out the top. After I am unloaded I find a corner to lien my case in. I never leave shit laying around in peoples way. One place we shoot at is very tight quarters. They have large banquet tables for people to sit at and to put their drinks and other stuff on, people are always leaving their cases on the table oblivious to the fact that if everyone did that there wouldn't be room on the table for anything else. I put my case under the pool table, a few of the less brain dead individuals started doing the same after seeing me do it. Not sure why there are people out there who are oblivious to the inconvenience they cause others, it must go back to the brain dead thing. I think the absolute worst cases are the ones with legs like a golf bag, in a dimly lit bar it's real easy to walk into the end of a cue protruding from a case with legs and they take up an ungodly amount of space. One guy in our league had one and insisted on using it no matter how small the facility was, I cany count the number of times his case and cues were laying on their side from people walking into it or tripping over it and he just couldn't understand why it happened.
Well, here’s how I see it. I’ve used tube style cases since forever, been in more pool halls than I care to count, have put my cases over the years through their paces, and never had an issue with a cue being damaged, not even close.
I bought a JB 4x8 a few years back for storage, as I loaded it I realized like you, everything was kind of tight, and way too close together. There seemed to be a friction when trying to remove butts or shafts from it, also you had to load it and unload it a “certain way” because of how tight it was. I contacted JB and they confirmed it should be loaded and unloaded a certain way.
It certainly offers protection, but too tight IMO. I noticed how much smaller the JB 4x8 was compared to a Whitten 4x8 I had at the time was. It feels like you’re cramming too much into too little a space. Now you’ll have the freak occurrence happen occasionally where it might prove handy, I remember a post here about a guy that dropped his JB from a moving motorcycle. So I guess it’s ok there, but how often has anyone’s regular hard cases been subjected to an incident that resulted in damaged cues?
I would have to respectively disagree. Cues often fall under the category of functional art, my personal favorite kind of art outside of music.
I have a small collection of fairly high end knives, many of which are fairly fancy (e.g., scales inlayed with figured wood or ivory, pattern forged blades). The fancy ones are just as functional and tough as the plain ones, but are definitely art. (Mostly, I use non-fancy versions of the same knives.)
Given the budget, I'd happily collect cues for art's sake. Personally, I'd still limit myself to a player, a break cue, and a bar cue for actual use.
You people are so entitled that you think because it bothers you or don’t like something it shouldn’t allowed some where. Just ask them to hang it on the chair if it’s in the way. I lean my up against the wall behind where ever I have my cue’s. Allowed lol you shouldn’t be allowed in the pool hall for thinking your better then everyone else. Stay at home a play where you can dictate what someone is allowed to do .

I have a 1x1 McDermott round case that is nice and sturdy and was included when I bought a cue. I would use it for any priced cue as it is well built and it cost me nothing. But that's me....different strokes etc.
I was once offered the option of having one of those tight interiors built into a case I was having built or the case maker's usual fit.
I told them: no, I do not want to have to turn my case upside down and shake my cue out of the case -- those cases are made for guys that thrown their cases into the back of their pick up truck and are worried that, in their tequila shooting haze, they forgot to zipper the case closed, lol.
I am not one of those guys.

I also love a lot of the custom(ized) cases I see around here, but I prefer a case that can be easily replaced. Its job is to protect my cues and look fine.

Agreed. My biggest shock is those that refuse to use any other interior in their cases. I had a Justis case with the original tubes and I was “relieved” of it and my cues by gunpoint in a robbery. I went to Jack to get a replacement made, but he had switched to those soft interiors, I offered to pay him more to do one in tubes and he refused, it blew my mind.
There’s another case maker here on this forum that I’ll leave nameless that makes beautiful cases, but uses those soft interiors. I inquired about having him make one with tubes. He told me he couldn’t get material to make the tubes, which was laughable so I just moved on.
That's a pet peeve of mine.
Cases belong on the floor or under the table.
Shelves and tables are for other stuff, not cases.
Biggest pet peeve is a case across a chair. Chairs are for sitting, not cases.
