Pool cue quality vs. perceived value

I’m interested in comparisons between various production cue brands. With respect to production cues only, I am curious about how the quality of a cue is measured as opposed to its perceived value.

For example:
•Cue brand A is better than brand B because the shaft material is harder and wont warp.
•Cue brand B is better than brand C because the details in the butt are inlays instead of decals.

What are the criteria that compare the actual quality of one production cue brand to another? (i.e. shaft quality, materials, durability)

An analogy…
Last year, I was shopping for a new “high-end” watch. After much research, I found out that that the quality of a watch movement increases as you increase your price point until you reach the $400 mark. After that, only quality difference is in the case. In other words, you are paying for engineering differences up to $400, after that you’re buying more and more valuable jewelry. The saying goes, “no one ever bought a Rolex because he wanted to know what time it is.”

Does the same thing exist with pool cues? Is there a measurable, qualitative difference in materials, workmanship, and playability up to a certain price point?

If so, what is the price point?
If not…why not?
