Pool Hall Junkies aka......Losers??

I go alot, mostly just to shoot the bull. I also play alot as well, but I hardly take any of the games serious. Very bad for your game.

If I going to play elsewhere I like to take a brake from the local spot, useualy 3-5 days so I can get that edge back. I do make a point to at least run one rack daily to keep in stroke.

that's awesome...i totally understand u but there are people im sure in ur local poolhall that is there EVERY SINGLE DAY and i think one day they are going to realize they just wasted 20 years of their life inside a pool hall and good prime years at that..

Its what they do man, dont hate on em. I'm starting to go to the poolhall more and more and all the regulars are pretty nice guys, i think its nice to go into the poolhall and know that you most likely will see someone you know, it makes it a lot easier to go knowing you can play and bs with someone at your level. And maybe they dont have "lifes" as you say, but apparently that is their life, so dont talk shit about people you dont even know. how about next time you go into a poolhall talk to one of the "junkies" they can teach you something. But apparently they are never going to teach you how to be a nice person. I am not even a poohall 'junkie" but your thread still annoys me.

it annoys you because ur becoming a junkie and you know ur going to fall under the loser catagory it's ok though im not going to tell you how to live ur life or anything just dont waste too much time there that's the best advice anyone will ever give you about this subject

yea, ok, even tho im probably a lot "cooler" that you on whatever scale you look at...but i see what you are saying man, my point is dont go talking shit about people that go into poolhalls all the time on a pool forum, ur just trying to start shit, does not seem like a cool thing to do.

see at least bigskyjake knows he's a junkie... but that's perfectly fine, it's ur thing.... maybe you see urself as a winner who am i to say people that go to pool halls all the time are losers. maybe im the loser that doesnt go to the pool hall? thanks for admitting bigskyjake.

i dont go every day but i do feel i missed something if i dont go atleast once a week.the reason is simple. i enjoy the game.some people play golf, some hunt, some go fishing,me, i go cause i enjoy it and im a player.

no no go away you black plague!!! dont tell people this rubbish! i own a pool hall and i need those people!!! LOL just kidding. i think it is like anything else, once you get in a pattern of what you do with your lesiure time, its hard to break. most people here are like family, without the arguing(most of the time). look at bowlers or golfers, or people who frequent bars. they all go for different reasons, but they have something they are needing, companionship, friendship, or maybe feel like they fit in somewhere. i dunno just my opinion!!

big daddys.. i understand that but like myself shoot pool once or twice a week, golf about once a week and go to the bar maybe 2 times per week even try to go bowling on the weekends but it's evenly spread out....i try to do a lil bit of everything not like some of the people at the pool halls they are just there everyday i bet they are there now! when they get to work tomorrow to check the forum i'm going to get a lot of replies but that's cool....

What Id call a junkie or even a looser would be someone trying to better themselves on a daily basis, ultimately failing thus the looser emerges.. BUT if a player is on a mission, a tournament, a money game, or possibly the first time to run a rack, yes, get your butt to the table. Play 150% every shot, elevate your game where you want it, then go maybe a couple times a week to stay focused. If youve already acheived your set goal and go daily your game will hit an all time low and stay there. then you will ultimately become a looser. You cant maintain and stay focused on a daily basis, but you also need table time to keep the elevated nature of a solid game. So if your serious about the game go often, but only if you can maintain the focus. otherwise go home, relax and come back another day. and repeat as nessasary.

"Gym rats" vs "pool hall junkies"

What do you say about "gym rats" who work a split routine 5-6 days per week? Or martial artists who do 5000 side kicks along with other techniques each week. Or doctoral students who spend 7 days a week in the library working on their dissertation & then repeat the pattern as professors pursuing their research agenda.

I'm sure that people who have tables in their basements use them every day. Are they basement junkies?

Novelists who might never publish a book or artists who might never be exhibited work every hour they can spare from waiting tables unless they are lucky enough to have a trust fund.

It takes discipline to master any endeavor & that is to be admired. Dedicating your life to a quest for mastery can only be admired.

As for me, I'm through with my break now & I'm going to work on what will hopefully be my 11th publication this year. If the creative juices flow, I might forget to eat breakfast.

Parting thought

When those people you call "pool hall junkies" are occasionally moved to come over & comment on my pitiful technique, I am as inspired & honored as if I received the Congressional Medal of Honor or a Nobel Peace Prize.

Junkies do drugs. Healthy people have passions!

Ok Theres a difference between being a PoolHall Junkie and a PHJ loser.

I know alotof guys who are there atleast 4 or 5 days aweek, but they are gambling 3 of those days and in tournaments 2 of them. I dont know if they are married or what, but thats what they like to do. Plus they are also there with friends too. So its not like they are just practicing everyday.

The other guys I know, tend to rotate between a couple pool halls. They goto Place1 on monday and Place2 on weds and so on. So its not like they are at the same place everyday.

Now as for the complete PH Junkie loser, I see them all the time in my area, They only play in the Freebie tournaments or the 1$ tournaments, have no job, no car, live at home, no future, cant run 3 balls. And will sit there for hours on end, just leeching at the pool hall not spending dime one.

Like today, After I had my hair cut, i went to the pool hall to try out the new SNIPER tip i had put on my cue last nite, and BAM, 2 of the local loser's were sitting there at the front counter doing nothing. Cuz they have NO MONEY and NO JOBS.

And the two hours I was at the pool hall doing my Q-skills test, those two guys did absolutely NOTHING! and they'll sit there for hours on end.

I split my time between 3 pool halls, monday I play in a tournament, weds its league at another place, and Sunday its another tournament and sometimes thursday too. If I am at a pool hall any other day its for practice.

And I DO SPEND MONEY on drinks, table time, and food.

i had no life, girl, etc. yes i was a loser in societies eyes, however I got an education in people skills thaqt has made me lot of $$$ since the pool room days, i saw the 50 year old men that had been hanging out in the pool room for 35 years and didnt want to end like them, so I learned how to hustle, and took those skills and opened a business, i have alot of employees etc. had i stayed in pool any longer yes it would have been a waste of time so i left pool
