Some of they great ones have gone, some have changed to keep up with the times, others are like time capsules. I would love to see some pictures of the rooms that are mentioned on the forum here. For my contribution, here are some photo's of a "time capsule" pool hall, in my opinion. J.O.B's just outside Nashville in Madison, Tn.

I realize most will never set foot in here, so maybe this will give you an idea. First, the place is pretty big with 3 different rooms or areas. When you walk in you are greeted by a pair of dummies still thinking over the same shot...

You are in the 'Front" room with 7 or 8 seven foot red labels, the "pit", and a snooker table. Notice the vintage wood paneling and brown Berber carpets with duct tape covering rips and seams...

The Pit...This is where many of the action matches happen...The open door in the background is where you can get repairs, tips replaced, etc.

Take a left just past the pit and in front of the bar and you enter the back room. Another 8 or 9 seven footers and 1 9 footer, all diamonds...and some of the steepest bleachers you will ever find...

Still have some of the old Camel Tour pool lights...

Turn around, walk back through the front room, and go down a few steps and you are now "downstairs" with 8 or 9 more seven footers and another 9 footer...

The walls downstairs have these cool wood-carved portraits and other memorabilia of the famous people who have been there...these folks look familiar...

There you have it...one of the classic southern pool halls...maybe when someone mentions JOB's on here, you can have a mental image of the place...or better yet, maybe you can visit one day. I can pretty much guarantee the carpet, TV's, and wood paneling (all straight from the '70's) will still be there!

I feel fortunate to have several pool halls somewhat close to home in my area. There are probably some who have to travel a good distance to find tables, league, to play on.

Glad they finally went non-smoking. You needed a gas-mask back in the day. It is one cool spot. Tons of history in that spot.

Unfortunately, you won’t get a great view of the room, but this is Chick’s Billiards in Brooklyn, NY circa 1966. Chick is in the middle, flanked by me on the right and my brother on the left.
That Is an awesome picture! Tell us more!

My dad (Chick) was an excellent player. He borrowed money from many family members, and bought the room around 1963. Although I was too young to remember any details, he did have Willie Mosconi come in for an exhibition. We moved from Brooklyn to NJ in 1969, and he commuted until 1973, when it became too much for him, and he sold it. It stayed a pool hall for awhile, then a church, and is now a banquet hall/ wedding venue. I try to get back to the neighborhood every ten years or so just to reminisce. Chick passed away a few months back on his 90th birthday.

I felt the same way when our sport (tho most all thought it was NOT a sport), was sponsored by cough/cough Camel cigarettes. I though, chit how the hell are we NOW going to get more kids into pool?

A lot more people smoked then and Camel saw pool players/fans as a ripe advertising target. Just business.

Think of all the kids who became doctors because “ more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette”. 😜
