Pool Halls in Wisconsin

Hey guys,

My girlfriend wants me to tag along with her to Wisconsin this thanksgiving while she snowboards. Well I don't snowboard, so I'm thinking of playing some pool around the Cascade Mountains / Madison area. I'm not necessarily looking for good action players since I'm poor, but a good pool place where I can while away time, play in some tourneys, and see some good action would be great. Also, if anyone is gonna be there during that time, I'd love to meet up!

So does anyone know of any good pool places in that area?

thanks!

For pool halls I know of Cue-Nique which is downtown area in the university district and more on the west side (away from Cascade) is the Green Room. I believe in the city of Madison all businesses are now non-smoking. There is a bar called Wilson's that used to be good place for small table action with several tables.

Careful and call ahead before you venture to those joints(Cue-Nique and The Green Room). They have the same owner and are prone to very quickly changing hours. Over on the east side is a sports bar called Pooley's that has decent bar boxes (clean and well maintained). Stay away from the pool barn unless you want to play in a poorly lit, dirty, stinky barn. There are more, PM me and I'll go through the effort of gathering the info in detail.

The two pool rooms I mentioned do NOT have the same owner and are both decent places to play. If you're looking for a bar then you can always check the local vendor websites (www.bullseyegames.com or www.modernspecialty.net) and use mapquest to see what's closest to where you will be staying.

Oh no, I'm not looking for bars or barboxes at all...I'm all for the pool hall 9 footers. This Cue-Nique and Green Room definitely sounds good...do you know how far they are away from (1) the Cascade Mountain and (2) University of Wisconsin at Madison? I did some reseach on poolrooms.com and Cue-Nique sounds like a pretty cool place, and there's also a house pro by the name of Jerry Briesath there, who also coaches. Anyone of you gonna be at either place during thanksgiving?

For bar box action there are a few bars around that have weekly tournaments. A Friday night tournament and a Sat night tournament. There is also a thursday night tournamnet but if it's at Thanksgiving that probably won't be happening. Lots of poker tournaments around the area too. There two pool halls in the area, CueNique and The Green Room as Duane mentioned. I'd be happy to bang them around with you if it works out. email me and we'll see if we can set up anything.

Duane,
I never said the rooms were bad places to play. I simply said to call ahead, I travel a good clip to go to the Green Room and last weekend to my dismay realized I was there 3 hours before opening. This is because they change hours on what seems like a whim, and I was foolish enough to not call ahead.

As far as the ownership I'm afraid I'll taste my foot on this one beacuse I was mis-informed, and didn't check for myself.

Raemondo,

Both rooms are good places to play and Cue-Nique is very close to campus. I couldn't tell you if any weight moves in either place because I suck at pool.....and am not good enough to look for action myself. Whichever you choose, enjoy yourself and the city.
