Pool halls Portland Ore. Area

Columbus day storm, last weekend of the Seattle worlds fair:D

Yeah, we got whacked up there too

It's going back 9 years or so, but:

The McMenamin's brew pup (Ringler's) below the Crystal Ballroom used to have 4 or 5 9 footers and a snooker table.

If I recall correctly, they downsized to just a couple(heard, never been in there). Not sure. Quite a few of their places have pool tables, though. The Backstage, behind the Baghdad movie theatre has 5 or 6, with one or two being in individual rooms that are only $5 or so an hour(they had a snooker table, too, but got rid of it). The Kennedy School has one or two tables in the basement bar. Most people playing at those places are there for the drinking and socializing. Aside from the handful of halls, there are quite a few pool-heavy bars(KC Midway, for example, 5 diamonds in the back and 3, 4 or 5 more valleys up front).

Ah, the Columbus Day Storm,!!!

The good ole' days, when you could put a boat in on one side of the Columbia and float yourself right up and along Front St. and from there you could get a scenic view of Downtown from your Aluminum Boat.

Also, Tommy T's Family Billiards, right on the boarder of Portland, Beaverton and Such, but a fun place none the less for pool players. And a nice place to be able to play pool with the whole family.

Tournaments.

Does anyone know a listing of local weekly tournaments? I used to look in the "Cue Ball Gazette", but that seems to no longer exist.

onthebreaknews.com has a tournament section in The Break for Oregon and a few other areas. Greg Sowder, who makes cues and does repairs, also has a web site, sharkshooter.net, that lists some tournaments as well. What part of town are you in? We could put together a little 2-person tournament. ;)

I am in Northeast Portland. Sams is nearby! Always looking for others to play with.

I'll play just about anything, anywhere. I'm sorta close to Sam's(barely in the NE area), but equally close to the Hawthorne area where I normally hang out. If you want to knock some around, let me know. Do you play APA/BCA or anything else? Sam's has a straight pool league and I think the 9-ball summer session for BCA starts up in 2 or 3 weeks.

Portland

It seams from glancing at the tournament trail section of OTBN that there are fewer and fewer tourneys in Portland/Vancouver....oh wait Vancouver is in WA. LOL.I did notice allot of tourneys are 3-5 dollar entry and some are free?

Last I heard Glenn was away from Portland much of the time these days...

How is the tourney scene there compared to Tacoma/Seattle and how is the action? We get a few Portlanders wandering up this way one in a while for action.

Yeah, I've heard the same about Glenn, not that I'm really in the know about that stuff, though.

There are a bit more tournaments than what are listed in The Break, but it does seem like they are disappearing a little. Portland's pretty dry as far as any decent tournament buy-ins go. I'm sure the players head on up that way looking for action because of a lack of it down this way. I can think of a few that would head up that way to play, but there are probably a few more that hang out on the West side of Portland(downtown to Beaverton/Hillsboro) that set out hunting once in a while.

I need to get into the tournament thing again. I've been wondering if my crappy showings at the coast have been due partially to a lack of tournament play. We'll see if I can get the g/f on board with that idea. :o

Great thread, just in time as a friend and I will be heading down this weekend to play, we're gonna hit as much as we can.........good luck out there guys and thanks for the info

Pub 181 is a good tournament and fills up very fast with some good competition. If you head up to Rodder's in Oregon City, you may want to poke your head into KC Midway since it isn't too far away and also has tournaments and a nice back room with diamond barboxes. Classics has a 12' snooker table and you can usually find a 1P game or something going on there. I haven't made it in there in a few months, unfortunately.

If

you guys were talking about Glenn Atwell, he has been down here in Kansas for months staying with family, I think. I don't know if he came back here after Vegas, but I should find out on the 16th as Stix here is having a 64 entry tournament in 9 ball.

Anyone out there in PDX play three cushion?

There's a 3C table at Sam's, a few people knock em around from time to time. There was a Korean(?) joint on Stark Street that had a few tables, but I never went in(saw them when I played nearby in my early pool years).

I'll send ya a text here in a little bit, about to take lunch.

Thanks banks.

Yeah, i live near SAMs, and love they have a billiards table. However, I have never seen anyone on it, other than me and a friend. I will post in the carom forum. If you want to play sometime, shoot me a message.
