Nothing but bar boxes... it's sad, a city of that size should support a pool room.Any places left to play in Reno? Looks like Q’s and Diamond Billiards are closed.
That's really sad, for Reno not to have a single pool room is worst than absurd! Reno has such a rich pool history, with all those great Sands events in the past. Wasn't Diamond Billiards out in the direction of the Peppermill, it was a nice place as I recall.Any places left to play in Reno? Looks like Q’s and Diamond Billiards are closed.
Again, so sad. I have some fond memories from 'The Biggest Little City in the World'! I guess the only reasonable place to stage a big tournament now would be The High Sierra which used to be call the MGM if I'm not mistaken. It would have to be something newly built in one of the newer developed areas (south?). Downtown Reno is no longer a desirable place to be after dark, or even safe.
Probably not feasible because the price of commercial real estate in all the newly developed areas is just too steep.
I’m staying at the Peppermill and saw what used to be Q’s heading back after work. That's really sad, for Reno not to have a single pool room is worst than absurd! I remember one just a couple of blocks from the Sands, I used to play there once in a while when I went to Reno for the Sands tournaments. But The Grand High Sierra would be the perfect place to stage a world class tournament (hint hint Emily).Q's may still be viable, but I don't think it was ever large enough for a regional tournament. Is it open?
I used to go there all the time before it was GSR. Wasn't it a Hilton?I expect a 'big tournament' still could be staged in the convention center or the exhibit halls of the large casinos. (the Grand Sierra Resort, locally know as the GSR, previously the MGM, could certainly qualify). But no, there aren't likely to be any dedicated pool halls suitable for a major tournaments.
I went to High School in North Tahoe in the late 90's. Every week I'd head to Reno to play the USPPA tournaments at Keystone Cue and Cushion. Every 6 months I'd play the Reno Open at the Sands. Great time every time! The Hilton had the driving range in the parking lot where you'd hit the floating golf balls onto the islands. After it became GSR, they stated having the USBTC there for a few years. I want to say that was sometime around 2005 or so because I was already in the military. I miss those days, but all of my trips to Reno in the last 15 years have made me happy to never go back.Yes, I think you are correct. It may have gone through several ownership changes since opening as the MGM in 1978. But it has been the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) for some time now.
