Well............25 years ago, it was "Clicks" on exit 4 (cheap 9 ball tournament with a break/run bounty and Calcutta), "T's" off exit 3 (hustler's hangout, where they worked each other before running out to their haunts to rob soldiers) and the "Robert E. Lee Lounge" somewhere downtown near Country's Catfish...Might have the exits off by one, and I'm an old fart so these places probably don't exist anymore. There was a great place (run down, but great action) near "Ts" that was run by an old retired SGM and his lovely Korean lady wife...cannot remember the name...greens fees and house take robbed the pot, but he gave away nice trophies, decent enough payout (1st two places only) and had a weekly 9 ball and 8 ball tournament. Most of the hustlers jumped that tournament to scope out action. He held his own self-proclaimed Columbus Classic every year and some pretty heavy hitters came down from Atlanta to try and rob us all. I beat Bill Wright in some 8 ball one night, he invited me to a ring game with some friends from Atlanta and ruined gambling for me for life...that and I almost got killed once (seriously) taking a couple hundred off a hustler who worked a nightclub taking soldiers' mid month paychecks. Seriously, there are some areas down there with a long tradition of bad times for soldiers, so take care...DO NOT go anywhere near Phoenix City, AL. (across the Chatahoochee). Soldiers have gone AWOL for life there since WWII. Seriously. Dead. Never found. No BS.
Keep in mind gambling is (or at least was) illegal in Georgia, and the cops do occasionally raid spots if they suspect a card game or Calcutta is going on. Well informed is well armed! That said, there's a lot of nice folks down there that love soldiers and love pool.
