Pool in the News - 2 articles on Rocky Mounty WPBA tournament

Seating for 750 seems to be an improvement on the usual casino venues the WBPA use. (I've only ever been to the San Diego WPBA tour stop so I don't know if other WPBA tour stop venues are larger but they don't look like that on TV.)

Speaking as someone who has no interest in casinos I have no problem with the change of location. I watch the matches for the great playing and the great players, and not having to listen to the fruit-machines in the background is a plus for me. Maybe now ESPN can record the commentary audio right without it sounding like they are sitting at the bottom of the sea. I think anywhere the WPBA go they will put on a great show regardless of the facilities available.

As for my favorite player it has to be Allison Fisher. Yes, I'm English so that helps and I love her smooth, precise play. However the thing that impresses me the most is that even after years of winning tournaments she still breaks out in the most wonderful school-girl smile when they hand her that Winner's trophy.

Thanks for the info. The real question is how jennifer got into the tournament when so many women play in qualifiers and spend lots of cash to try and make it to the WPBA. There are a lot of deserving women who should be a north carolina. They spent the time playing in many regional or international tours trying to make it.

From what I understand, Barbara on the CCB educated me on this (thanx :)) , the promoter of the event gets two slots in the tourney and picks who he/she wants to fill them.

Landshark, I believe there is just one promoter spot per WPBA event. The existence of promoter spots is very good for women's pool, making local businesses more likely to finance an event.

The article suggests as much, but does Fisher really have an edge because this event is in North Carolina? It may appear so, but consider the case history.

The last time the WPBA had a stop in North Carolina, meaning WPBA Charlotte in June, 2001, Corr topped Fisher in the final to assume the WPBA #1 ranking for the very first time, ending Allison's run of close to five years as the #1 ranked player.

Aunty As for my favorite player it has to be Allison Fisher. [/QUOTE said:

If you talk to the top people in the WPBA like I have on mny occasions they deny that there are any promotional spots. Kind of interesting, heh.

Oh dear, the judgement of Paris is upon me. I have to pick only ONE all-time favorite, at the risk of offending everyone else, it would be Allison. However I'll cheer for anyone who is putting their whole heart into the game, like Sarah.
