I just spent two sessions at the Chiropractors office trying to make sense of some back pain. My back is generally OK, however, when I play pool for 6-8 hrs at a time that's when the problems arise. Sometimes I had to stand up on the bus on the way home, because sitting was literally a pain in the as$, as well as the back, leg and foot.

At 48 yrs old my doctor has convinced me that I need to do a series of 10 stretches daily (20 minutes) or look forward to more problems down the road.
Right now I'm to keep off the table for a few days and having been off it for three days. It already has me experiencing withdrawels.

Does anyone out there use a stretching routine or have you experienced simuliar problems? I love the game too much and will do the work to come back. RJ

ps. Everyone tells me I have a nice stance so I don't think that it's the problem. I'm not getting any younger.

I always do a little stretch before pool put the pool cue behind your back and swing your hips sounds stupid gets all those little kinks out of your back then hold your cue up high and bend down and then back, takes 25 seconds and i feel gooooooooooood.

Hey RJ, I am 52 and have to stretch every day because of low back problems. I am in construction have been for 27 years. Developed sciatica while racing bicycles in Palo Alto Ca and learned all about back problems. I suggest that you find a sport's med doctor and see which excersises he would reccomend for your particular problem. There is a series of stretches and excersises that I do including situps, cause the stomach muscles hold the back in line. Get a good Doc and stick with the stretches and I think you'll see some real significant benefits in your game as well as overall comfort.
Good Luck,
Dan
