Pool IQ - "Little Joe" Villalpando Instruction

I recently spent 5 educational days with "Little Joe" Villalpando in Davenport, Iowa.
Joe's friendly manner and extensive pool knowledge made the time with him highly productive and enjoyable. He goes into great detail with tangent lines and his "clock and gear" system. He is methodical and patient and will answer any questions you may have. If you are looking for a comprehensive yet understandable way of viewing and playing pool, I would recommend that you should check "Little Joe" out.

If you contact him and are making plans to take some instruction from him, as a "pre-step" look into his 2 DVD's (Kick shots and Cue Ball control) which go into a detailed application of the "clock and gear" system. Those 2 DVD's will give you an excellent introduction to Joe's system which his personal instruction will only build upon and develop.

Little joe really cares about his students pool knowledge. He does all he can to make sure his teaching is understood.

He has built some strong pool players, the youth and regulars in this area that frequent the pool hall and are wanting to learn or showing will to learn and advance are some lucky souls. I've seen him donate his time and effort to help out with out hesitant.

Any luck on trying to rack down his dvd's?

Sounds interesting. Can anyone provide links to any sample/excerpt/trailer of his dvds?

I believe Joe is between web service providers right now, but you can call him 563-676-2027 for information about lessons or ordering DVDs.

I have been a student of Joe's for about 8 years now. I say student because he is a real master of the game, and has really helped educate me on many of the basic, and finer points of pool.
First of all, his kicking systems are second to none. I used to be able get lucky and kick out of some safes, now I amaze my opponents with my ability to kick out of many situations that seem like lock up safes. But when you know how to execute and manipulate 1, 2, and 3 rail kicks with accuracy very little remains out of reach. And all this also comes around to apply to banking and moving the cue ball around the table with precision.
His DVDs cover his systems in great detail and are still easy to learn. Joe is a great teacher. He knows how to break down the processes and explain them in ways that are easy to understand with visual examples. If he is instructing you he will explain every shot, and watch you shoot it several times, pointing out what was right or wrong, good or bad about each attempt. He will watch your stance, your stroke, your hand positions, and help to find flaws in your game you may not have never known you had. With all his experience he can spot a hitch in your game by watching you shoot just a few shots, and show you how to fix it now. He is always polite, professional, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend both his DVDs and some private instruction to follow up if you can swing it. His rates are VERY reasonable AND he will go above and beyond to help accommodate you while you are here. One guy was flying in to Chicago to get to the QC and Joe drove there and picked him up (3.5 hours away).
So thanks to Joe I am playing the best pool of my life. I'm the only lady to win an open tournament at our local pool room - Sharky's Bar & Grill. I have also found a new passion for the game, and a commitment to playing with precision, imagination, and skill. Thanks Joe!

Super nice guy...just got done talking with him, cant wait to get my hands on his DVDs

I cannot say enough about the knowledge I have received from Joe and his lessons. I got much needed some guidance and a couple kicking DVD’s from long-time player ‘Lil’ Joe Villalpando. Joe is a highly regarded pool instructor and has a track record to prove it, he makes champions. He worked with the Behnke family for several years with whom he used in his ‘Pool IQ’ instructional DVD’s. Every member of the Behnke family reached major accomplishments including Chad Behnke who represented the U.S. in the National Junior Open. ‘Lil’ Joe developed his own kicking systems that simplifies the complexity of one, two, and three rail kicks into and exact formula that can be easily transferred to students. (Some instructors teach similar recreations of Joe’s original system that have been altered to allow for lawful plagiarism.) After a few sessions with Joe, pool turned from a hobby to an obsessive passion.
The game of pool is humbling. It’s like trying to eat an elephant. If you try to take it in all at once you’ll choke. Pool must be broken down into lessons that you are able to understand based on your level of play. This is what Joe excels at. He does not have a pre written syllabus that he manufactures and uses on all of his students. He understands where each student’s skill levels is at, senses areas that need improvement, and helps them in those areas. Above all else, Joe teaches how a player should handle success and carry themselves on and off the slate.

Joe is indeed a great guy. Super knowledgeable and willing to help a player out if you just ask. One of a kind for sure. If you get a chance to buy him dinner, he has more stories to tell than you can imagine. I always look forward to seeing him each year at the DCC.

Ha Rob... robbing the tourneys, they said they had to move me up a level because people were complaining! I've recently had the desire to shoot at a higher level, which can be hard to figure out on your own. So along the way Joe has been there when I'm just baffled at what is going wrong, he can pick it out and show me how to correct it, and why it will work. Then he will leave me with something new to work on. Every time we talk or have a lesson I leave with new little pearls of information. His arsenal of knowledge seems to be endless! What can I say? Joe is a treasure, and what he shares is priceless.
