I am finally down to using(playing) about twice a week. I used to have to have it at least 5 times a week.

Seriously, though when i got married and when my son was born about 2 years ago i couldnt even go without hitting some balls even if it was only for an hour or 2 for more than a day.

I feel good now and am comfortable with only playing 2 days/week. It seriously took me almost 2 years to get to this point.

This was the only real addiction i have had in my life and just wanted to share with the group that i finally broke it (almost). To be able to go to work and have family time without thinking about pool feels good.

I will probably start back up again when i get more free time in the future. (looking forward to it!)

:p
This was "kinda" a joke but really does anyone else FIEND for pool when they cant play for more than a day or 2?

Yeah. I play Tue, Thr, and Sat for about 3 hours each, and it's just not enough. Twice I've had a three day stretch and it was just the best three days ever...

And I'm also beginning to see everything that's not getting done because of it. But I tell myself that life is short and pool is cheap. It's brought my husband and I closer together. My good friend at work and her husband have started playing and now they're closer....

There's always justification. :)

yeah,
We are moving into a new house next month and i convinced my wife to get a pool table as one of the first things i buy for it. She said she wants to learn too. I hope i can get her addicted to it as well so she can see how good it feels to play everyday too. :)

Totally addicted

If you were to ask the patrons and workers of my pool hall who is the guy who could stay on a table all day long everyday and not get tired, they would say it was me.

Lately, I have been going in the morning from about 8 or 9 am and either hitting balls or matching up until I have to leave at around 3. This is every single day. If I am stuck out of town or something, I have to get on the compI'm sure the filipino's have it, cause I hear they match up all day everyday.

i'm in a bit of a mess financially at the moment and have recently moved twice, so i haven't been able to play regularly for a few months. i'll be all sorted in a few weeks and will be able to start playing regularly again but it really is killing me.

the other day i decided to treat myself - i went to the pool hall and hit balls for about four hours and man did time fly. It was heaven! Better than sex!

Today I've had to make do with screwing my cue together and stroking on my desk, imagining hitting balls...

Thats awesome. I could definately see it helping.

Much better to take all your free time up playing pool than doing certain other things in life.

If she wants to learn, that is a very good sign. Make it fun and applaud her smallest achievements. Good luck!

I concur.... Like you, when my daughter was born, I went from 2 leagues,2 tourneys, and a couple of "practice/action" nights down to basically NOTHING For a few weeks and NO league and 1 tournament every few weeks. Funny thing is I didn't really mind or miss it at all since I didn't want to miss out on anything with my new baby. (watched a lot of taped matches during this time :D)

Now, almost 2 years later I'm back up to 1 league a week and 1 tournament every other week and I'm ok with that... kinda.... Occasionally I will get out after we put her to bed and play some 1 pocket with a buddy of mine once a week for a couple of hours.. I REEEEALLY enjoy that game now.

As far as it being a DRUG, I agree completely. Before I was married it was pretty much every night of the week and when I wasn't there it's ALL I thought about. I remember ( it still happens occasionally) sitting at the red light, about to turn into the pool hall parking lot where I was SO FREAKING EXCITED AT THE THOUGHT OF GETTING TO PLAY I could hardly stand the time to wait for the turn light !!!! now how's that for f**d up! LOL

I dont have a addictive personality, but pool is 100% a drug. Awalys has been for me; in one form or another.

I have always thought of pool not as a drug, but as a form of therapy. I find it incredibly relaxing to escape to my table in the basement to get away from the kids, work stress, wife stress, and play by myself.

I read "Zen Pool" by Max Eberle, and try to adopt some of the concepts and treat pool as sort of a meditative activity.

I guess that this could have the same effect as a drug, but it would be more like a valium-type drug than an upper. (not that I've done either, to be truthful).

Time to get out of the poolroom for a while. :)

I have often said it's "the high you can't buy". You play pool searching for dead stroke and when you find it or it finds you then there is no drug in the world that gets you as high as when you are perfectly controlling the cue ball and making balls disappear at will.

And you can't buy it - you have to earn it. And nothing feels worse than chasing dead punch and not getting there. Pool is the worst kind of drug - the best feeling in the world when you are winning and the worst when you are losing.

Side effects are headaches, nausau, rage, bad dreams, and empty wallet.

I started playing pool right about the same time I started dating this incredible girl. She finally told me I had to choose between her and pool...I still miss her occasionally.

Conversation Between Me and My Practice Partner

"There is a lack of consensus as to what may properly be termed 'addiction.' Some within the medical community maintain a rigid definition of addiction and contend that the term is only applicable to a process of escalating drug or alcohol use as a result of repeated exposure. However, addiction is often applied to compulsive behaviors other than drug use, such as overeating, sex or gambling. In all cases, the term addiction describes a chronic pattern of behavior that continues and is perceived to be hard or impossible to quit at any time. It is quite common for an addict to express the desire to stop the behavior, but find himself or herself unable to cease.

Addiction is often characterized by an ongoing effort to use more (drug or behavior), tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms in the absence of the stimulus. Many drugs and behaviors that provide either pleasure or relief from pain pose a risk of addiction or dependency.

Now will you just shut up about this and ...........

You made the right choice sir. I mean if she was really that incredible, she wouldn't have a problem with your passion about this game.
