Pool league players, how do you decide who plays?

Hi, I'm just wondering how other people who play in leagues decide who plays second and third rounds?

I play on a new friendly league in Korea and we usually have more players than rounds. We play two rounds of singles and the a third round of doubles. Usually we just do the first rounds by who shows up first. But by the second round we have to chose who plays for a second and third time in the second and then third round.

We've been just doing it by whoever wins there games has first shot at playing in the next two rounds. But all games aren't equal.

Do you play your best players every round to win and other players when your safe on wining, or do you try to be fair and get everyone playing?

Like I said, we're a new team with a new captain so I would just like to hear other peoples ideas on what they do.

It's almost always picked by who the players on the other team are, who is left to play on the other team and how those players play and who's turn it is to put up the player for the set.

Sometimes the bad players have better chances of wining against certain people, in a handicapped league that is. If your league is all even races, then best players are always preferred.

I've never seen a league where you are allowed to play your best players every round. Aside from smaller masters divisions, even bar leagues don't allow the best players to play every game.

If that's allowed, I would call a team meeting. Let them vote on whats more important to your team. Winning, or fairness to the team players themselves. Different teams would have different answers.

Generally we like to put up first and we lead with a 5 or sometimes a 6. It's our method of sort of making the opposition go all in or have to sacrifice that first match. Statistically, the team that gets the first match wins the team match I read somewhere about 80% of the time. We figure that if can get one (or both) of the first 2 matches we can pretty much get the matchups we want for the rest of the night. Late in the session if we establish a big enough lead we'll do some different things with matchups or if we have folks missing on certain nights, but typically we have a prescribed formula and it usually works out pretty well

The way the teams work here, is that you pick out your six players and their order for a round. The other team does the same and then you match your lists. It is, for the most part, blind as to ranking, though generally the better players play first. The only rule about rounds is that a player can only play one game per round.

We also have two girls on our team that are the bottom players by a decent amount. We want to be fair to them, they show up EVERY game, but it also means that during tight matches we cant always play the better players.

Guess it really comes down to deciding what kind of team we want to be, and THEN getting everyone on board with that.

I'm in Seoul, so I play in the Itaewon league.

Let me start by saying I know nothing about APA, but Ive played BCA. The team I played on used the same lineup every week. We could have mixed it up and played a strategy I guess...... But it was easier to remember who played next our way.....
Won a championship and dogged the playoffs the next year and took 3rd.
