pool or family

I just found out a couple of friends (Husband and Wife) are having trouble. They both play a lot of pool but not necessarily together or at the same time.

I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for their trouble, but I stopped and asked myself the question: If I had to choose between pool and family?

To quote mork that took less than a "nano second". For the young people, Robin William played in a series back in the 70's called mork and mindy.

I have been married to the love of my life for 27 years (next month) with two wonderful kids (the oldest is in medical school). If it came down to pool or family, I would throw my cues in the fireplace and never play again.

I think everyone would benefit if they stopped and asked themselves if they were allowing pool to neglect other areas of their life. There are no do overs.

I agree with your thoughts, 100 percent. Speaking as someone who sacrificed a lot, all in the name of pool, I soon found out what was important in life.

You're only as good as your last win, and then the peanut gallery ridicules every single pool player that ever walked the face of the earth as if they're no good. There is very little respect given to pool champions by the very culture that pool feeds. Pool is cruel to its own.

AND living out of a suitcase, I soon learned, sucks a big weenie, not to mention those credit card bills that come rolling in from attending two, three, and four tournaments every month. Even when you win every now and then, you're so stuck from the other pool tournaments. The payouts in 2009 for pool are the same as they were in 1970.

Pool can and should be enjoyed as a recreational game. League play, weekly and weekend pool tournaments offer the best bang for the buck. Professional pool is nothing but an abyss with no fortune, a pit of despair, a nightmare that keeps getting worse and worse.

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it! :)
