I'm in my 4th session of APA ( 8 ball) and I have found that deciding how to run, when to play safe and when to hide is sometimes perplexing. I think it would be very helpful if there was a publication that would show a picture of the table with different situations and the reader could decide what was the best plan of attack. AFter determining the coarse of action , turn the page and see if you did what the expert would have done.

There are times when I'll get ball in hand and have 4,5 or 6 balls left. The first thing I do is look for trouble balls but quite honestly I'll usually look to sink 1 ,2 or 3 balls when maybe the best thing would have been to sink 1 ball and play a great saftey.

I do understand about break outs, safties and at times setting shots up by not making a ball. I just think that many times I make wrong decisions and a book full of "puzzles " would be helpful.

I hope I'm getting my point across. Is there any web sights or publications like this?
Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember a book called "How would you play this?" or something similar a few years ago...I don't recall the author. Maybe someone has this one, or has a better memory than I.

"How would you play this?" is by George Fels. Slanidrac16 might like Larry Schwartz' book, which is entitled (approximately) "The 8-Ball Handbook for Winners." It contains a number of runout puzzles and lots of good advice about 8-ball strategy and tactics.--AS

This book changed my thinking about 8 ball. It's EXCELLENT! Get it!
