Pool reality show idea. Paging Fatboy or dippy?

There is a reality competition show for just about everything out there. Dancing, singing, golf, cooking. For christ's sake there are like 5 cooking competition shows.

Here is my idea for a pool reality show, and it rocks.

9 contestants are given 1000$ seed money and a plane ticket to where ever.

They would each be wearing a hidden camera.

The object is to roll up the biggest nest egg by the end of the season.

They would hit a town, and go to work.

Some might hustle. Some might form alliances and work together.

Players with the least scratch at the end of a week would be eliminated, and then everyone would fly to a new town for a week.

Winner gets sponsored into some big tournies by predator or whomever.

If you got some good personalities this concept would rock.

I put Dippy and Fatboy in the title because from my limited experience around here they seem like the two with the connections to talk this idea around.

I want .5% of the rights when this premiers on CBS.

Discuss.

You would need a good lie detector test to make sure they didn't set up big scores with friends. The winner would be the guy who could pass the lie detector test.

Cooking is a multi billion dollar industry. You have one problem with pool, no one would care and would not watch. The best thing you could put on TV would be an instruction show linked with product selling like QVC. Picture a guy like Esteban the guitar guy but selling pool cues and instruction dvd's. Selling say Meucci or McDermott cues for an hour with a player like Archer. They could even stage match play but the thing would be an informational for the cues and what ever else they were selling.

Put together some demo footage.

I think for pool 3 min shorts would be more popular for the pool community.

Ya know Bud, that sounds like a great idea. I respectfully disagree that it wouldn't fly. People absolutely love Reality shows these days. There has been some serious duds but this idea is worth a pilot at the very least.
Get into the real nitty gritty of the hustle and gamble. Get into the players lives/minds and personalities.
And Danny would make a fantastic host.

Yea, this show wouldn't be about pool any more than the 'hustle' is. Pool is just a means to an end - a skill game you use to finish the deal.

There would be a ton of strategy involved. Some guys might try an elaborate multi-day partner scheme while others might just grind the local bar tournies, and another might just go to the action room in town and say "Anyone wanna play sum?"

This show would be all about the personalities, the strategy, the networking and the social engineering. Pool would just be the backdrop.

No cell phones for the contestants, and they don't know what city they are going to next. If someone is smart enough to set-up a fake score with those rules, then more power to them, they just hustled the hustle, and thats what the show is all about at the end of the day.

THe only challenge would be having some security near by for all of the contestants, because someone would get into a fight or worse. Oh yea, and good lawyers.

i do agree that now is the time to try a pool reality show. Joe Rogan, John Schmidt, Jay H, Dippy, Fatboy etc...If all of the people on this forum worked together, I don't see how we couldn't get it done.

How would you explain the cameras following them around? Hidden cameras would not work very good. You would need to view the table from all angles. Looking at an out of focus picture from under someones armpit can't sustain a 30 or 60 minute show very long. At best maybe a show about a player and follow them around as they prepare for a tournament. Some personal stuff more like a documentary. You know, what you are talking about has already been done. I forget the name of the show but I bet someone on her remembers it.

I like the idea of a pool reality show. This has potential particularly if you really pushed the hustle aspect of it, I think the creativity and savvy they contestant would have to show in order to pull of the score could truly be a draw. Unfortunately I do see a few problems already,
1. Whats stopping them from simply slipping off with the thousand bucks?
2. You would have to come up with something like unique challenges for them to have to accomplish otherwise even with unique personalities you run the risk of becoming tediously repetitive to an audience not already captured with pool enthusiasm.
3. Explaining the cameras and the crews. Not impossible but certainly difficult with already suspicious people.

Well, it was a great idea until all you stick in the muds started getting all technical and such.

Seriously, good points, thats why people sit around and toss ideas back and forth. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Cameras are a big point, maybe have to change the original format a bit.

There was an AZ member that did a pilot in a hall in Texas, I believe. I wonder what became of him. The pilot was pretty decent.
You could skip the hustle aspect and just get into the grit of woofing and making a game.

You watch Pawn Stars and on every deal thats taking place, there is a part where Rick explains the action and whats going on in his mind on any particular deal. Well its the same with this idea.

Anyone remember the person who did this? Maybe hunt down the link.

meh - the naysayers are everywhere. It would work fine as described.

THIS IS NOT A CTE THREAD - YOU DONT HAVE TO NAYSAY EVERYTHING

Nah, they're not naysayers. Just helping out and being realistic.
If they were hard core NS, you would have gotten flamed large by now.

Have to think of it this way, they are looking at your idea at different angles than you and thats a good thing.

lol the best idea for reality show in the UK is to get that stupid Justin Lee Collins dude to just try to make it as a pro pool player, like his failed attempt to try and be a proper darts player...lol

YEa, I know, I was just kidding. No thread complete here without some CTE.

Actually bringing a camera crew might be the best way to get action! It can be hard to get action these days but if the mark knows he gets to be on tv out of the deal he might go ahead and bet with a stranger.

Yeah there is no way to make it work with hidden cams IMO.
