Pool Room Music

When it's my turn at the table I barely notice what people are doing, what music is playing, etc. so it doesn't matter whats on the jukebox. I will say when someone put on Steel Panther at qualifiers the lyrics did catch my attention!

I completely agree. I was at a tournament this weekend and we started in the morning before the place usually opened, so they hadn't put any music on. It was nice to just hear the clatter of balls and occasional quiet chatter. But people acted like their oxygen was cut off. "OMG I can't stand this!" "It's too quiet in here!" "Someone put some music on!" I really don't get it.

It's funny that you mention the sound of the clatter of the balls. In my old mans hall he didn't have a jukebox, didn't believe in it. One day a customer asked him why no music? He replied, "there's music, you hear the click of those balls son, that's music to my ears".

As long as the volume isn't set to 11, I don't care what it is.
Gentle background music, even the most obnoxious, is better than silence.

I agree with your first part 100%.
The pool hall I most often go to has an identity problem.
It thinks it's a night club when people put coins in the jukebox.
Other than that they're not too bad because they just play classic rock radio station.

I prefer no music, but just something soft in the background is fine.

Personally I prefer no music at all... The silence dotted with echoes of clicking pool balls is music to my ears.

My personal soundtrack would have Motown and 80's with some classic artists, like Elvis, Johnny Cash, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Aretha franklin... (NO BEATLES), it would also include a few of the current and recent popular "Country / Crossover hits, and some Cuban big band dance, and a little Basia. No love ballads or sappy songs, I just find that things move better with more fluidity when you have the full range of Motown and up beat stuff playing, and while I do like a few of the current artists, there is very little, though there is some, current material that I might include with this stuff

I hate the rap and the stuff where the lyrics are about raping and kill the cop. I play the old country and classic rock on head phones country and classic rock is all I allow in my home room . But I am a old fart

Blues - BB King, Albert Cummings, Etta James, Albert King, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa,

Country - Eric Church, Blackberry Smoke, Montgomery Gentry, Kenny Chesney, Van Zant

I also like the "music" of an NFL, MLB, PGA, or World Cup of Pool playing in the background.

Whatever it is, I prefer it to be at a reasonable volume.

I'm okay with anything except rap and heavy metal head-banger music.

I don't seem to hear it while I'm shooting, but it's nauseating when I'm not at the table.

You don't like music about killing and raping? Wow, you are old. Get with the times!

I don't mind most types of music as long as the volume is reasonable. One thing that does suck is when I go into the pool room in the early afternoon to practice, and some day-drinking douchebag puts $5 worth of Buckcherry on the jukebox, then asks the bartender to turn it up. I would be a big fan of a "no music before 5pm" rule.

I used to think I liked you, till you said NO BEATLES ;)

I've lived music for so much of my life that I don't get too worked up about what is playing anywhere any longer. While death metal and gangsta rap isn't my thing, most anything is OK with me. I've collected music, studied music, been a DJ both on the radio and in clubs, and played music (recently went back to playing drums in a local bar band after a long hiatus) so it all runs together for me now.

I just don't want it at 11, which might seem odd for a drummer, but I guess I'm getting old. Actually, having it at 11 while I'm playing wouldn't bother me as much as when I'm not playing and want to be able to speak to somebody, anybody....keeping score in a league match does require a little communication.

I have started wearing earbuds while playing a match lately, not for the music specifically but to drown out the chatter around the table. I have "managers ears", in that I am constantly listening to the conversations going on around me at work, and I cannot shut that ability off. Its gotten distracting playing pool, I follow the conversations around me. Drives me nuts, I've tried for years to teach myself to ignore it....I've been a manager for far longer than a pool player, I guess that's gonna win out.

I only wear one of the ear buds, giving me a constant sound to focus on, and still can turn my head and hear what someone has to say to me if need be.

We are fortunate that our LO allows us to wear the earbuds despite it being against the national rules....of course, if anyone were to be found to be cheating that way would spoil it for everyone, so hopefully we don't have that happen.

Lmao!!!!!

If I have to hear "chew tobacco, spit" one more time I'm throwing myself into traffic!

I wasn't going to post anything until I read yours.., please text me before you throw yourself into traffic and I'll join you!!!!
