looking for serious help on draw shot the rest of my game is fair but my draw shot sucks very weak would like to find some one to help in the north al or in the south tenn area willing to do almost anything any one know a good instructor please replay
Scott Lee is a great instructor and will be passing through the Nashville area before too long for a follow up session with me.
Also, Johnny Archer, Helena Thornfelt and Monice Webb are in the Atlanta area and teach from time to time ASAIK.
There is also a very recent thread here about draw shots that you will find with a search or just scrolling back a week or so.
But in the meantime...as a quick and dirty AND FAR FROM COMPREHENSIVE tutorial...just try this.
1. Use a striped ball as the CB and orient the stripe to a horizontal position...as exactly as you can.
The bottom edge of the stripe is the low limit for CB contact to avoid miscues. But due to a downward inclined cue, the top portion of the tip...not the center or the bottom portion is what will contact the CB so you can actually aim a little lower than some people think.
2. Place an OB one diamond in front of the CB for a shot straight into an opposite rail...forget about pocketing the OB.
3. Aim so that the center of your tip will strike the low edge of the stripe. Therefore, you will certainly get "draw english" but won't risk miscueing.
4. DO NOT take warm up strokes...Just draw the cue back to the full back position...with the ferrule nearly into your bridge hand and PAUSE THERE.
5. Shift your eyes back to the intended point of contact and then SMOOOOOTHLY execute a forward stroke with enough pace to send the OB all the way down table and back. Just sort of a medium pace.
You should get a diamond or two of draw distance.
BTW....aggressively chalk the tip so that it will leave a chalk patch. After the shot, inspect the striped "OB" to see where the chalk patch is.
There is about a 120% chance that it will be higher than the lower portion of the stripe you aimed at...which is one of the main reasons you are getting less draw than you wish.
I say again...there are LOTS of other issues but I just want to rule in or out whether you are contacting the OB as low as you intend and must do to create reverse spin.
When you do that, report back and let us know the outcome at which point you will help us provide more specific advice for your particular issues.
Regards,
Jim
