Pool Should be FREE!

Why charge for table time? Have a cover charge.....1 pack of cigarettes and four drink coupons to come in....the pool is free!.....as long as you are smoking and drinking.:)

Pool is free at my house :D

The poolhall I shoot at occasionally offers free pool with a 20 dollar tab. Thats pretty much the same thing. In most places 20 dollars worth of pool is about 4 hours. Some bangers wont justify that and only pay per hour and stay for an hour.

$.25/hr!!!

I just got a job at my college's student union so I get the employee rate of $.25/hr. Needless to say, I almost have as many playing hours per week as I do hours in the classroom.

My local pool hall gives free pool with lunch Monday - Friday. No idea how much free time though, I never seem to be able to go for lunch!

You are DREAMING, would you work for FREE?

Free Pool doesn't make $ense

We used to offer free pool on slow nights as a means to draw folks into the Pub  .....for us it was a bad idea -- it brought in folks that didn't spend any money; they dominated the pool room; and caused us nothing but headaches.

IMO, nobody can afford to run a business giving away the pool table revenues.

Perhaps, if you never cleaned the tables and used the same felt and rails forever then maybe -- but, then again, you would be out of business shortly!

Wasn't it just last week there was a topic about what a nit is?

This train of thought is a prime example.

Poolrooms are businesses, man!

While what you're saying would be lovely in a utopian world, it just isn't practical. We've got to remember that these pool tables take up a lot of space, every square foot of which must be paid for! I believe that the absolute minimum space necessary for a 9 foot table is about 14' by 18', some 252 square feet. If the room owner isn't going to get any revenue at all from that square footage, then simple business sense dictates that he's going to have do something else with it. Of course, we haven't even begun to factor in the cost of the pool table, balls, house sticks, new cloth and rails, the cost of the electricity to light the table, the cost of labor to maintain and repair the tables, etc.

Let's put it another way. Based on my best recollection, the modern pool hall, which offers food beverages, instruction and pro shop services, gets somewhere around 33% of its revenues from table time. You show me a business that can afford to give up 33% percent of its revenues and I'll show you a front for some other activity.

I would work for free if my rent were free, food was free, pool was free and BestBuy was free.

Then, women would complain we were being "cheap"

eeew... I can't stand when people smoke in a pool hall. It burns my eyes after a few hours of straight playing.

BUT, here's the rub:
Play pool and withstand the burning smoke

or

Stay home and withstand all my roommates playing WoW...

I'll take the smoke and pool thank you.

You could always "accidentally" flip that breaker switch now and again. :D

Howls of derisive laughter!
