I"m not handy. I had mine built. It has 6, 8ft bulbs and it lights my 9' Diamond beautifully. But... it's heavy as hell, probably about 100 to 150 pounds.

I believe the top/lid is a 4x8 sheet. I believe all 4 sides have a groove (rabbit?) cut into the top edge so that the top/lid fits into the groove. Then trim was added. The light diffusers are the ones with chrome-like 1/2" squares so that light is reflected onto the table. Two 8ft fixtures would probably suffice... like the Diamond light. http://www.diamondbilliards.net/Accessories/Lighting/tabid/71/Default.aspx

I think my craftsman made the light out of 1/2" oak plywood. He used regular fixtures and they hummed. I changed the ballasts to electronic types. I've used them a couple hours a day dammed near every day and have not had to replace a bulb in the 8 years they've been up there.

I used STRONG hooks and chain to hang it. :groucho:
