just ordered my table, and the ideal place to put it would be in our big shed out the back of the house. Is this okay? Will putting it in a shed be bad for it? Will it cause damage?
It will always be covered and so on, but is there anything else I should do to protect my table?
I live in Melbourne if that is any help in terms of climate.

Any windows? Do not let sun shine on the table. It will kill the rails. Nice choice. Enjoy the GC. What cloth are you using?

Gold Crown,,,,,,

Sounds fine to me, as long as you have enough room and the temp. is realatively consistent,, any extreme climate changes may affect the table, then you'de be Shed out of luck !!

Having a GC in your back yard is awesome , enjoy buddy,,,,,,,Alan...

A/C and hopefully a steady humidity level. Summer temps can kill the rubber and warp wood. freezing temps can damage the rubber as well. I know my shed out back can get to 110-120 during this time of year. Also be mindful about silverfish and mice/rats.

Thanks guys, I'm using simonis 860 (:
It can get bloody hot and freezing cold here but not extreme changes. Will try and avoid extremes.

Melbourne FLORIDA or Melbourne AUSTRALIA? Very different temps...lol

If the back shed is sealed completely from the elements it should be OK.

Any severe temperature changes can damage the rubbers and too much light will damage both rubbers and cloth. If it is a GC it will have metal pocket plates between the rails. Depending on the metal they may tarnish as well.

If you have a plastic or nylon cover for the table, get a cloth one for between it and the bed-cloth. Temperature changes can make different plastics have weird effects on that too.

When you wipe the cloth any small particles of dust or chalk will be ground into the cloth. Best bet is to buy a hand vacuum cleaner and use it before you brush or wipe the cloth.

If it is a ball return - When you rack up you should put the balls on the table and THEN draw them back and put the triangle around them. If you get in the habit of filling the triangle you will soon find wear marks on the cloth in a vague triangular shape. You can always pin a racking cloth to the end of the table and rack up on it.

Whoever installs it really should be able to give you a rundown on proper care... that... is anything that I or the previous posters have missed.
