Well since i am spending my x-mas there in Cali...i'm arriving in cali on the 15th of december and will be there till early jan. I was just wondering if anyone knows any nice poolhall i can go to...i'll be in Salinas to be exact. But I guesse i will be traveling around. Is there a poolhall close to Salinas or something, perhaps even a local tourney?

I'm kinda worried about bringin my cues to....jebus krist if something happens to it in tthe lugage(i'm pretty sure i spelt that wrong :D) storing thing i'll be so piss.
Plus...i will be spending time in Vegas so i am hoping i can catch the Mosconi Cup :D

There are 3 Pool Halls in Salinas:
Sidepocket 831-771 0100, New Rex 831 424 1136 and William 831 422 2232. I walked into Sidepocket and it was OK but on the wrong side of the R.R. track.

I was staying in Monterey and working in Salinas a couple of years ago. In Monterey, Easy St. 831 333 0825 is very nice but pricey.

In Gilroy there's Garlic City on 7500 Monterey St. There was action then.

If you get up to Gilroy, there's Gilroy Billiards although I wouldn't take any recommendation for restaurants from the owner (that's another story)

And if you get up further north don't miss California Billiard Club in Mt. View. And in San Francisco there's Family Billiards on Geary Street.

if you already know or will know, before you leave, where you are going to be staying in California. Send your Cues in a Cardboard Box, with a $4000 insured value... they'll get there OK... if not, you can go shopping.

Hi Cardinal_Syn,

I've been to California Billiards. Awesome tables! Right in front there is a row of either double or triple shim tables. I don't remember. Nice full bar & snacks. Also check out Felts in San Ramon. Great people, OK tables. If you're interested in staying out there, the room in Monterey is for sale. I spoke with Michael Stanwix about it in June. LaMas is correct, it is pricey to play there!

If you're not busy at the end of this month, please come visit Classic Billiards here in Rochester. We have a Joss Tour stop. Paul Thornly, Dan Doerner, Chris Wood, Alex and others will probably be there from Toronto. From the QE and 400 interchange, its less than three hours. Hope to see you here.

Hey Syn,

I also used to lose to Chris years ago. I beat him for the first time at LeScratch in Oshawa this spring. Oh what a feeling!

I ship my cues & case back and forth around the US in a travel bag from Joe Porper. I think it was $50 US. I had one problem with Southwest Airlines. They asked me to sign a form accepting loss only, no damaged goods. Since I bought that travel bag, I bet I've travelled 50K air miles without incident!

Rochester weather is wonderful this time of year. Come on down!!!!

Just a note about traveling with cues...

I now have a "Hockey" bag which I use for the check-in on airlines. Sporting goods stores have plenty. THese bags are about 40" long so there is plenty of room to put in your entire cue case (I travel with a 3x6 full leather case with pouches) and the rest of your clothes...
I travel overseas and thruout the USA...no problem yet.

No baggage handler will realise that there is anything of value in this bag!!!!
...plus I do get extra insurance just for the extra protection...

Best part...only one bag to check in!!!

I believe that Easy St. in Monterey was like $12.00 and hour in the evening, and maybe less in the afternoon. You should ask for a monthly pass (all you can play from opening to prime time) around $60.00 per month down here in L. A..
