I will be going to KC for work next week, and plan to check out some PH's. Anyone know of some nice rooms there?
Thanks,
David

Don't know much about KC pool halls, but if you stop by Columbia there's a couple decent halls here and I'd be willing to knock 'em around with ya!

Don't forget a stop at Arthur Bryant's. That's a must do.

18Th & Brooklyn, bring an ak-47 along with you. The place lives on its past reputation, there are much better places to go to than this relic. When the old man was alive I was a regular, it has gone down hill badly.

KC, my home town, a stop at Raytown Rec room to play on big Bertha one of the last standing 5x10's is a must. I was in the joint the day it opened.
Spend an afternoon just walking around the plaza, 47th and main, it should not be missed.

I moved out in 1972, went to Florida, only go back a couple of times a year, have lost touch with everyone. That guy could play, thats for sure.

No ak-47, if you are going to 18th and brooklyn, then pack a couple of granades
and pack a rod.

Get a map, find Raytown, its a small place, when you get there, ask any one, everyone knows where the joint is, it's downstairs, a real pool hall with papers.
Raytown is out in the Southeast part of KCMO. Find 63rd street, when you hit raytown the joint is on your left side. It's my kind of place. It's also safe so do not be overly concerned. I never had a problem there. I can have a problem in church with people.

That 5x10 was the kind of table I came up on in Kling and Allens and in Millers in the downtown area, classic top rooms years ago now closed.

They have a classic 3-cushion table also, ask for Don Brink, he may play you some, he can run some 6 or 7's on you with no problem.

Every town has what is called the tourist joints, the ones the ones who do not know think are just great. New Orleans is full of them and the locals never go into them. Same on Bryants, the locals found better places years ago to frequent after the old man died and they changed how they did things.
Prior to then, you could see the who's who of the town in there. What made the place was it was across the street from the baseball park before it moved. People would go in there before or after the game and that is how it gained it's popularity by simple convenience. The same thing is true on the Varisty, a drive in resturant by Georgia Tech, another grease pit tourist trap that serves crap food out of date as well, same thing. I am sure you will see this on the discovery channel as well, and they still make the worst hamburger on earth. One dose of the grease laden fries will put you in for a triple by pass.

Just go out at night and walk the Neighborhood around 18th and brooklyn for an hour, vist the area, lots of luck. The place sits in the middle of the ghetto. Don't listen to me, I was just born and raised there, listen to the tourist who goes there 3 times a year, he knows more than I do. My family owned a meat market and I was raised on the best steak and ribs on earth. This is the only food I am an expert on. I used to love this place when it was good. I am not very impressed on what they serve now, greasy fries, fat cow ribs, it is sub standard and catered to a ethnic audience now, the old man cooked for his all white clinetel when he ran it. Churches fried chicken cooks for an ethnic clientel. I don't eat there either because I don't want a meal of grease. You will see me in chick filet or subway. Different strokes, for different folks... End of my culinary review, everyone hates culinary experts, when they slam a place, everyone runs there to check it out, same on movie reviewers. I should stick to reviewing bozos, I am better at that.

;) :D :D

listen to this -

thats right , pay attention to this guy he says its his town. --moved out in 1972, goes back a couple times a year. (he certainly should know) who the hell goes for ribs and walks around the neighborhood for a couple of hours. what people looking for ribs thinks about finding a subway? if your heart and body are to old for the grease thats your problem. (sorry for your poor health) but some others like that food once in a while. bryants is a very popular place today not just yesterday. going to KC - try bryants.
