Poolology: some Zone C shots don't work for me

I put a donut hole sticky on the 60 object ball position line in Zone C. I used a laser to mark the 60 line on the table, so I believe the sticky was exactly on the 60 line (assuming my end points for the 60 line are correct):

Over a few days, I lined up many 1/4 ball cuts and 1/2 ball cuts using the Poolology line of centers, with the 1-ball as my object ball, and my conclusion is that for the table I was practicing on and the balls I was using, when I lined up a 1/4 ball hit, the cut was too thick, sending the 1-ball into the rail around the 20 diamond(one diamond to the left of the 30 diamond shown in the diagram above); and when I lined up a 1/2 ball hit, with the line of centers pointing at the 30 alignment value, the cut was too thin (that is why I washed the ball set!). For the quarter ball hit, I had to adjust thinner, and I believe the correct cut was between 1/4 ball and 1/8 ball. 1/8 ball was too thin, but I think the necessary fractional aim point is closer to 1/8 than 1/4. For the half ball hit, I also had to adjust. I found 5/8 was too thick, so I just tried to cut the ball slightly thicker than 1/2 ball but not a full 5/8. Can anyone try those shots and either confirm or deny what I am seeing? Thanks. For the 1/4 ball hit, I lined up the line of centers so that it intersected the long rail 1/4 of the distance between the side pocket diamond and the diamond to the right of the side pocket. 3/4 x 60(the object ball position value) = 45, and 5 is 1/4 of the distance between the alignment values 40 and 60 on the top long rail.

In hindsight, I should have tried the same 1/4 ball and 1/2 ball cuts on the other side of the table to see if I observed the same thing. Next time.

You are correct. Some shots are off. The primary goal of the system is to help you develop a feel/eye for pocketing balls. Some shots, due to simplifying the system into straight lines, end up not being perfect. In fact, they could be off by 3 or 4 degrees. But the system still provides solid and consistent references that help you learn exactly where to aim. So even though some shots are not that accurate with the system, you still find yourself developing solid aiming skills.

Shot speed and spin has a large effect on this shot. A ball hit firmer with a little draw or top will have less cut induced throw. At this distance, that will cause a miss.

There are some good example videos of this on YouTube.

Something to consider if you didn't, or I missed that you did and forget everything I said :)

I use poolology all the time, Every shot for a reference. I just set this shot up on my Diamond 7' Did 10 shots of each The 1/2 ball shot reference was perfect, most 1/2 ball shots never even touched the rail. The 1/4 ball shot hit the rail right where you stated. A 1/8 ball shot pocketed the ball cleanly. Also, all depends on your own vision and aiming line. 1/4 ball and thinner are harder to aim accurately anyway

I find it very useful to use Poolology to target half ball hit positions on my run out pattern. I believe the half ball hit gives the best options for maximizing cue control when angles are needed.

I think this is an under used feature of knowing Poolology.

I can see an object ball is "on 20" so I can target a cue position that gives a "10 alignment value" for my position play.

Excellent use of the system!
