Was it the seedy ambiance of a group of old guys sitting in the corner of a dark smoky room, puffing on cigars while a stuffed deer head stared at you from the wall? For the analytically minded, was it the illusion that you could break the laws of physics and make the cue ball do things that were completely unexpected? Maybe it was just a movie that you saw, a book that you read, or a television show that ignited your quest to learn the game? Did a close relative that you admired play the game well, and they introduced the game to you?
