Does this tip replacement tool really work as advertised? Will it shave the tip even with the ferrule without cutting into the ferrule?

I don't think it's worth the money. It doesn't prep the ferrule for the tip so you have to use some other tool for that. If the tip is 14mm, it's hard to insert into the trim area. And it doesn't do that great of a job of trimming the tip flush with the ferrule. The shaper is useless. You can buy the individual tools cheaper and do a better job.

Don't know much about it, but I do know there are other tools you'll need. I'd look into buying a kit with all the items required for tip replacement. The most important is something that can clean/lightly sand the ferrule so that the tip goes on flat and stays on when glued.

I think shaving is the easiest part of tip replacement. I've always used a razor blade, a steady and patient hand, and some tape (to protect the ferrule). Has worked fine so far.
