Little Joe's video on cue ball control is great, and there are many drills out there for practicing getting shape. What is your favorite instructional DVD/book or drill(s) for learning or improving your position play/cue ball control abilities? ... and why?

Here are some free samples of a set of DVDs for playing position:

I happen to like them because I helped make the DVDs. We tried to put in drills for all levels of players and all position/shot situations.

Simply playing Straight Pool can do more for your all around game than any other. If you don't play or haven't played it very often for a while, you may need to pick up Phil Capelle's Play Your Best Straight Pool and his new one, Break Shot Patterns book/DVD combination. Straight Pool provides more of a mix of necessary position shots than other games. If I remember right, Bob Byrne's book Standard Book of Pool and Billiards has a series of 10 position drills in it. I think the same drills are in New Standard Book also.

There are lot of good "workout" type DVD's - some of Bert Kinister's, Joe Tucker, Bob Henning, or Pro Skills Drills. They all focus on certain key shots that come up frequently and work on your ability to make the ball and get to the center of the table, or up to the end rail, etc.

I also like the PAT series, good combination of knowledge, shot making and position drills with a nice way to score, also progressive so as you get better you increase distances or add balls to add to the difficulty. The level 3 drills are tough!
