Practice practice practice

Psychology would have been my pursuit of a college degree. After a year and a half at USAFA, I had enough P E credits to major in physical education without another.
So sports psychology would be my Personal strive for excellence. We do play leagues for recreation. Right?
Kind of helps explain how I can enjoy a loss.o the game. Good competition.
Be the Competator
Accept the Challenge
Make Him(or Her) earn it.
When those three conditions are met it should be Fun.

The Frog deep squat in front of the heater works. Kinda cold. 34.
The one handed elevated is a first step of the 3 step.
WOW Alert!: Right hit the Maximum while holding the attack mode thought. Period. leverage in martial arts and football is paramount. Same here.
From the ground up.
Guess the Max deserves a Trophy while I contemplate. 2 to the teal 10. Hmmmm

Zero service 10.

Oh cold fingers Lefty picks a shot that's natural well a touch of the special sauce on the cueball.
20231209_075616.jpg

That's 2 rails to the 10.

Everything is slower in the cold. Lefty's intention in shot selection was table hamper Right or natural stance. Hmmm still an interesting study in the speed Spin reactions off the cold rails. Right finally hits it dead center but 2 hard. Zero service 12.

Right closed the target with a 4. Lefty's service 2-16. Now 3 rails to the purple stripe 12 on the King pad. A cocked hat variation. The 3 rails to the side +. A little long should work . 4 rails is the call.

Of course Lefty hits it 3 rails the first try. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well the 4 should be there. 16 serving 2.

Seems I forgot to send.
Yesterday seems so far away.
Sunday Funday 12.10.23:
The balance of the cue is on the ring finger or just between ring and middle.(for me) It Should be held at that point. Always! It's a weapon! Should be treated as such.
The importance of maintaining control of my weapon(m-1 about 10 lbs) was taught in Basic Training at USAFA in '69. Standing at Attention, the rifle was required to be held at the side to stringent standard. The rifle was held between thumb and forefinger. No loop. Just pinch.
If an upperclassmen could gain control of your weapon, it would be broken down and distributed throughout the squadron. Lots of training if it needed to be retrieved. Special inspection is what it was called.
Special Inspection involved both room mates in uniform of the day in front of our room. With rifles at Attention and 2 upperclassmen in our faces often slobbering on us to impress the importance of the lesson my room mate and I had failed(think it was dust bunnies under the bed). Anyway their method was to have one in your face while the other inspected in circuit around and snatch the rifle from behind. They never got mine.......but they got my mates!!!! His torture would be mine as well. So as soon as I saw the rifle in the hands of our training Cadet, I loudly inquired, "SIR MAY I ASK A QUESTION!". The reply (with smirk) was, "Yeah go ahead Cantrall."
"Sir! If I can do 73 push-ups will you return Kimberling's rifle. SIR!"
Big grin from the class of 72 training officer. "Yeah Sure"
Can't remember, exactly but oh yeah, at present arms I gave my weapon to the other trainer. Then dropped and went to work. Not sure how many I got out before my mate was asked, "Why are You watching ?" The range of 36 was my best Physical Fitness Test production. So 73 was fun to watch. We managed and limited the Special Education. All and all successful.

Must be military training day . The Delta Formation. 😁

One rail to the red 3 ball seems simple enough.

An interesting study in angles going one rail to the 3 ball. Gives me the reps to satisfy my physical therapist.
The inspection of the tip is a required step in the dance.

After a series of duces and an ace by Lefty, Right hits the Maximum. 7 serving 16 going 2 rails to the yeller one ball.

Uh Oh! Danger! Overinflation possible. Right finds another Maximum to target 2, the 1 ball. The Z bank side to side is obviously a favorite. 😉
Now to find 3 rails to the Orange king ball 5.

3 rails and 5 ball in the 5 hole gives the session closer 8 points. The cue is laid on the first leg.

The I recognize myself effect; has put me in my chair. Well trying to drive an 8' ground rod with a fence post driver helped. 😉
So much pure gold here. I can't believe it took me so long to find it.

12.13.23 the morning after:
a high-school coach said:
A tie is like kissing your sister.
Hmmmm okay?
Well I don't mind a tie and can even have fun when I don't win. So league was fun and I felt good about the 3 and 3 personal result. It was oh so close that one 8 ball that I left hanging. 🤷‍♂️ The other 2? Well my comment to my opponent sums it up. "You earned it!" Sums it up.thumbs

The Kill Protocall:
Does not require anger but. 😉
Only if I have to.......
Sometimes being backed into a corner, as in playing for more than I have in my pocket. Can be an exhilarating and even addictive.

Sometimes youngsters want to engage Santa in a battle of wits. Hmmmm, makes for entertainment. That's what recreation is all about. Playing nice is a lesson I had ti dispense at the risk of Congeniality points.
So when I am at the table.....I am MC ......my show.
Shark moves will be outed by this Santa. I will always start out nice and polite. If however you want to go up this ladder or escalator.....it's your choice. Ku g fu Santa. I just hope the young man takes it to heart and drops the shark Move. Shark attitude is fine. Just remember what an Orca can do to a Shark. Hell-bent and that is fun.

Well it's cold enough that the finger warming station has me typing. Yes I am that type. Scorpion that is. Oh yeah the story.
So my first game against the numbers 1 team with the Great grand 82 year Master uh Great Grand Master. Should be fun.
So where was I? Oh yeah, in my favorite hitting position. Lead off with 10 minutes warm up after driving 1 hour into the sun, up hill both ways. 😉
Shortly after the break I had a possible way out on the Valley table wih brutal pockets. Had just placed the bridge and was down and aiming but still deciding if it was the path I wanted a 3/4 table length shot to the corner that might afford a path out through the maze of 8 ball. When my opponent who has chosen the shark move seat that's so close to the table to afford maximum sharking options. Asked, "The side or the corner?" So disrespect for the game while teamed with a Grandfather? Really and you want to do This really? Okay, so I gently rose and ask (well on the line of)"Do you think I could play this for the side and miss it so bad that it goes in the corner?" Hello? It got loud from there. Oooops sorry 😉 I do get loud when excited. Thanks for the wake up call and had a great fun evening. Oh and I did lose the game but on a long 6 ball to the corner which went to the side. But I did make the call while it was on the table. Sooooo Good Right?😉

My sports psychology is: I would rather go down swinging than ducking. Well that was my first lesson at the age of 6. When I took one right to the mouth from the 8 year old bully as he swung for my 4 yar old sister. So Yeah I learned to fight. Lesson 1. Don't lead with your mouth.

Lesson 2. "When I am on the top I can say anything I want." Is what I whispered in his ear as I held him down to wait for the Cops.

My second encounter with the bully: He cocked back just the same as he did when I intercepted his punch with my mouth. I launch, just like the Frogs we shot wih our bb guns. I grabbed an ear in each hand pulling my face to his chest and lifting both feet from the ground. My words were to the effect of, "hit me now, it will pull more your ears." He couldn't hit me nor force me to release. Oh I was determined. I don't like getting hit but. Both of his ears bleeding was retribution for my bloody lip. 🤷‍♂️
Bully never seem to learn: When I was 9. On the first day of possession, of my new Daisy bb gun. He jumped me from behind and threatened to throw it in the pond. It end with the loudest screaming I had ever heard. I got him with the 3 rd shot just one step short of the safety of his front door. Lost the bb gun for a solid year but always was offered one by the older boys that I hunted Frogs with. When my father gave me the gun back was the first time I ever lied to him. He asked if I had learned my lesson and yes was my truthful answer. Then came the big one, "would you do it again?" The word was "No" but in my heart I knew......if he did it again, so would I. Probably get him with the first shot after 1 year of practice. 🤷‍♂️

Friday 12.15.23
The length of the previous post is an indication of the temperature. So cold but I have winter gear and a finger warming station. Did I tell you about operation of the wet saw in Spokane in January? Makes this 36 degrees seem balmy.

Abbreviations are my number 1 weakness. Absolute adherence and immediate corrections are key to making the practice beneficial.
[Major General John M Schofield]The Discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be attained through harsh or tyrannical treatment.....] Required Basic Cadet knowledge at USAFA in '69.
I got trigger effect to the D word 😉
Out of respect here's the complete quote which was required knowledge that had to be recited word for word at the utterance of Discipline from an upperclassmen.

Leadership

“The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be gained by harsh or tyrannical treatment. On the contrary, such treatment is far more likely to destroy than to make an army. It is possible to impart instruction and give commands in such a manner and such a tone of voice as to inspire in the soldier no feeling but an intense desire to obey, while the opposite manner and tone of voice cannot fail to excite strong resentment and a desire to disobey. The one mode or other of dealing with subordinates springs from a corresponding spirit in the breast of the commander. He who feels the respect which is due to others, cannot fail to inspire in them respect for himself, while he who feels, and hence manifests disrespect towards others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself.”

Lieutenant General John M. Schofield, USA (from his graduation address to the West Point class of 1879)
