Practice practice practice

The nice part of having My o×n room. Of course the attention striking this pose and holding for the balance therapy could be mixed in the 20 table room. 🤷‍♂️ yep yep, it is cold, I am old. Gotta play the S. L. O......W game.
Self says don't forget the other leg.
Good morning.

Well after 5 points the small way Right makes a 4 to shut the door. Now 2 rails to the yellow 1 ball the long way. Up and back. That could be fun. Lefty got plenty of therapy but no points serving 0-9.

Well the practice paid off. Oh yeah Wed morning 1.10.24:
League night was fun and we won. I broke even with 3 and 3. My two team mates carried the weight. With a 4 and 3 to get the 10-8 victory.
Bar table 8 ball on 8 foot Valleys should be my briar patch. It was a fun match.
My best shot of the night was a foul. Actually back to back fouls that had me cruising the bar for authority on the rules. Specifically the 3 foul rule. Is it in effect? as I was then on 2. eek! Whew "no foul" was the answer, oh Cool. My last game of the night and I was finally in possession of my "best game" and break and run was on the menu. Oh I had it dialed well when my key ball wobbled but fell into the half pocket I chose for the 8 as well. Wouldn't you know the 8 did the same wobble but wouldn't go. Freaking 8 was afraid of the dark. Now it's married to the half pocket blocker. Hmmmm only about a half inch open to go to headrail and back to hit the 8 pocket hanger. With loss of game if I touch the blocker first. We got there after I rolled another of his balls to block the small path that his blocker had to the cross corner. A tactical spot we had to go as 3 of his balls wanted the pocket occupied by my 8 ball. He had 7 blockers 😉 So his first safety got my blocker reply using his own ball put me on 2. Wouldn't you know that backed into the corner is where this Rat almost likes to be. The natural build of the adrenaline.
My Little League coaching from Ray Ellis the 2 times swimmer in WW2. 2 times the ship went cablew. Ray knew his baseball and pitched with either hand in the inter base games. Just like in the movie Mash. Big money between Generals.
Pure Gold tip o the day.

If it's the bottom of the 9th, two out, bases loaded, count is 3 and 2. Tie game. You Have To Want to be the player standing at the plate.
I took it to ♥. Well last night I did just that. With the whole game riding on the up and back kick. It's either win or lose. Gotta love it. I found the hit to the black with speed that I calculated based on results in the previous 5 games. I asked for velocity that would give the drop to the black with a clean hit but Not if the Blocker is touched. Talk about missing it by "just THAT much". It was so close and my opponent was so "in awe" that he was surprised when I Announced "No rail". I was the only one close enough to see. 🤷‍♂️ Now my target is only a quarter inch. The distance I moved the 8. 🤷‍♂️
The Near miss was like the proverbial gut punch. Knocked the wind from his sails so to speak. We were heading to stalemate with no 3 foul rule. 🤷‍♂️
The next shot he took with ball in hand was a complete failure that left mere inches away from the hit that required referee observer. Oh what Fun and we won.
Anyway the practice practice practice theme is what leads to this kind of Crescendo.
Okay the rest of the story is the luck factor and strategy. My aim on the up and back was for the blocker but full enough to stop before the 8 ball. If it l miss on velocity it has to be short. Period (was my swing thinking)Well the bar table had a slight roll to the rail.(very unusual on a Valley). Giving the total miss and kiss to the 8. NO RAIL! Gotta chuckle when I get what I asked for.
The length of the post is indicating the "come down" therapy required. Haven't hit a ball. But my fingers are warm 🤷‍♂️
Oops probably 7 foot Valleys. Who knows, who cares? 😉 a story is a story and that's my story. Pfluuuuut.

Okay picture o the day is 3 rails to the 9 ball. The theme is Back it up. Complete is Back it and Jack it is the old pool saying. Anyway it's the backup rotation of the cueball at the first rail that makes the shot. Disclaimer says; On this table it needs the backup to make the hit. Find that first then work on speed along with the spin that's been dialed in.🤷‍♂️ it's a good kind of experience hence knowledge available for the tough fight. On the Field of Friendly Strife.

This lesson emphasis is the fine control of the strike to the white. Through close observation of the tip/ball interaction I learn. 🤷‍♂️ The nice part of oldtimers is all the stuff I get to learn. Again. Sheepishgrin The computer got all the range and rail numbers while standing at rest. Once the equation is soved. We engage the robot. Starts with the Samurai finishes with the Butterfly 🦋 fingers input to the weapon. I Always want to look where I want the scalpel to enter. The Ring finger is the surgeon.

Edit: I meant Sumo with the wide stance and foot placement that makes them immovable. But Samurai rhymes with butterfly. 😉 🤷‍♂️

Funny part about playing well and taking it well when I play well but slipped and fell. It's about recreation.

01.11.24.
Thursday morning snow is the headline.
All is fine the byline. Should warm up with snow 🤷‍♂️ should be an ice rink on the roads, so stay home is number 1. Have fun is 2. 🤷‍♂️ Darn and all I have is this table.....and balls.......and this cue.

Oh wait. The YZ, of course, I should prepare it for quick response. Should be ready. Just in case "They" need me. ☺ probably should take a practice run. Yep! Bill the fuel to training. Shirley it should be fun. 😉 "Off we go into the Wild Snow Yonder" is the chorus. As we hit the door. Oh Hell No is the response from the face at the open door. The fingers immediate response is, "We Agree". With a vote of 11, be on the ready is the order of the day. "All equipment on the ready, Sir" is the reply. So lounge in the ready room is what I declined when I resigned. Oh the wistful thought o the day would be, "I could have been number 2" on the Flyboy list, as flyby was a tail gunner on a B-52. The aircraft I got to fly in training. A pretty good clue where the extensive testing had placed me at a year and a half.
So darn the luck. Darn some kitten mittens it's cold on the feet out there.

The Control Freak: A role I must play, should be control Geek. In competition it can go from control table to control room.(or find the exit like McGoorty).
The bi 3 (should be BIG)
Is Mind and Body
The Spirit declined to be spoken of so we won't mention. (Nobody will) Right?
Not religion but Just Sayin, "it never hurts to be on good terms with snooker Gawds" oops pool gods. Sorry, I didn't.....mention Karma. Ooops.
Karma is the only answer to how I got ball in hand shape on that final 8 ball. Karma is the only answer I like. I called foul on the shot that no one else saw. 🤷‍♂️ Wouldn't want it any other way. Those that want to play the bull stuff way will have to pay. Name the game. Name the rules. Name the Bet. The Big 3. Just hope that I don't raise. Well it would be unusual but not unheard of. 🤷‍♂️

Then there's the Left Right punch. When they know that my Left is not my right(proper) hand and the execution is spot on, it instills a doubt in the mind of the opponent. Well, on occasion, mostly with males. Females seem to respond better to exhibition shots. No Really.
As soon as they doubt. The advantage is mine for the taking.

The drop o the day. Here's the lay and long tackle that the Specisl Me got out and ready for target 1 as one hand was hampered so equal required use of equipment both ways even when it's a natural for Lefty. So Lefty set up the gear and then real eye's that it's one handed. Duh.
Right was given an over the top challenge and here's the response. 20240111_075605.jpg And it got a good result. Must be the darts practice. Steve Mizerack took us to the dart board after I broke and ran on him in the little 8 ball 1 game tournament. He taught well. Now for the natural Lefty option. Kind of an easy choice in competition. 20240111_075638.jpg

Good morning warming up to 32.
01.12.24
Late start but the titty shot is a fun opener.
20240112_090142.jpg
Off the point of the side was easy for Lefty who closed the target with a 4 then a 5. Hmmm nice tatty. Now 0 service 9 2 rails to the grape 4 ball.

You know "practicing" is another aspect of pool and sometimes more complicated than the game. Just looking at the drills you guys do gives me a headache. I'm sure you can run the gauntlet and pocket every drill but it doesn't translate over to the game.

If we were to bet money and run the gauntlet then I guarantee I will miss a ball before you guys. If we play sets then it would be a different story.

Again, I don't practice but I give kudos to these practice guys. I've seen some not miss a drill for hours. They pocket everything.

The 2 railer around the brown is straight forward and should go quick as Lefty just gave it a 5 point lick. 0 service 14.
Memorial day for a close friend passing away.

Well there's only 3 of us guys.
Me
Myself
And Eye 👁‍🗨 😉
So I guess I can speak for all of us guys.
Practice is all in the name. You ever see the movie with Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton trying to run a buisness.
Okay I will spare you the break it down. I don't practice anymore. There I said it. I do however workout. Every morning for approximately an hour. And believe it or not I enjoy it. Go figure. Considering that it doesn't take much to amuse me, your results may vary. I enjoy learning and chose the sport because I couldn't imagine not learning more. So far roughly 50 years later I am still learning. Just made an interesting observation this morning. The hard part is remembering it tomorrow. Maybe I will make a note in my log, as it was a good one. 😉

I admire your determination and you look like a mad scientist out there.

I already know I will miss just by looking at the setup. LOL

I have the out look of the miss as an opportunity to learn. 😉 So I have an excuse for no high runs in practice. 🤷‍♂️

You are mistaken. First my current morning exercise doesn't involve pocketing. I does however require precision. That precision does indeed get rewarded in competition. There are lots of different ways to practice with drills. I think more in terms of practicing with challenges. There are aspects of competition that are hard to practice or even replicate similar for practice. The camera is useful for me to try to create a performing before an audience mindset.
Can't count the times I have succeeded on difficult shots that come up and require the skills I have been honing in my workouts.
