Practicing & Different Shots

ok, i assume this happens to everyone else as well. there are times when i can practice and practice, shot after shot, the routine shots for 9 ball, and some others that have cropped up that i have made note of.

however, often times when i am playing racks, it seems like i get shot after shot after shot that i have never played, practiced, or would even dream about playing.

i suppose if you are going to be a top-notch player you just simply have to adapt to these new shots that show up. if you cant adapt, i suppose you wont be a top-notch player.

as mentioned earlier, when these shots show up, i will make notes to practice them. which i do, but then when i play some racks again i have a bunch of new shots that show up and the ones i just practiced never occur.

Hmmmmm....I don't think I ever left myself that kind of shitty position to have to pull it off. Maybe I should go practice it now, just in case.

Assuming your not talking about six rail banks. The way it sounds you practice more than I do. When I do get to practice I'll spend some time on my bread and butter shots, you have to have them down cold. But what you are talking about 'not bread and butter shots' showing up all the time, is why I spend the majority of my practice time playing racks. Obviously most people don't have the time to practice all the shots that come up regularly. You have to increase your chances of making these when they do come up.

Since this is one of the main reasons I'm playing racks. When one of these shots show up, if I miss, I forget about the rest of the rack and play that shot until I can make it on purpose. There are several shots that are now in my bag because of working it this way.

This shot is a good example. I use to have trouble with this shot and it is not on my 'bread and butter list'. It has come up often enough when I'm playing racks and had to stop the rack and play it over and over again. Now when this shot comes up, I'm confident that I can make it.

sounds like you are putting yourself in these positions where you have to come up with something out of a hat to get out of it... Wouldn't it be better to not put yourself in these positions? Rather than practice shots that come up once in a blue moon?

Some of these situations come up when the opponent misses. On the other hand, most of us arn't good enough to get exactly what we want every time we play a position shot.

and nobody can control what kind of shot you are going to have off of the break shot.

just seems like sooooooo many times i get a shot and have to think to myself, "Ok, Now Here's Another Shot I Need To Practice"
