Prather shafts?

I'm probably going to try a few of the Prather #2 grade shafts that they have available and wondered if anyone here had some experience with the shafts from Prather? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm going to get the 3rd cut shafts so that I can do the collars/ringwork/ferrules and final shaft taper myself. At $21.00 per shaft plus shipping they seem like they would be hard to beat. Is my assumption correct?

I don't have experience with Prather's shafts, but I picked some shafts up from Hightower http://www.cuesmith.com/index.php?menu2=menu_accessories&page=wood_shopfor around that price and was very happy with what I receieved.

There are many options for "practice" wood:
If these are shafts that you're going to wind up "practicing" on (ruining), you may want to consider first or second tapers and cut 'em down to size to put a ferrule on. It won't warp immediately while it is on the machine (it'll take a couple of days). You can get those for half the price (or less) of a final sized shaft.
If you order several of "mixed" quality (from any supplier), you can start learning about the different shaft qualities, keep the best for later, and practice on the lower grade wood.

I've gotten a few shafts from them and they've all be top notch! Nothing to worry about with Prather.
