Pre Ban Ivory?

Don't send it overseas. He would probably make some good money just selling it. Shouldn't be anything wrong with using it, but if he does some scrimshanding and puts his name/date on it....it could come back to him. Someday someone may try to ship it out of the country and if it gets caught by customs somewhere down the line....he may be asked to prove how/when/where he got the ivory.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has so many restrictions and prohibitions on various kinds of ivory—Asian elephant, African elephant, whale, rhinoceros, seal, pre-Endangered Species Act, post-CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), and many others—that they urge you to contact them before you even think of acquiring ivory in a foreign country.
