pre-league night routine?

not sure if this was worth an edit or reply, but I'm also curious if anyone finds that having a partner better than you is better than a partner worse than you.

My wife and I play and she probably didn't touch a pool cue in 10 years before we started leagues, and she was just a banger then, think that messes with the human psyche?

play someone better than you. Thats always the way to go. Not too much better or all youll do is rack. But someone a ball above you will always make you focus and try you best to get out. People tend to ease up on a lesser player because thyre not likely to run out.

I use too have the same problem. Now I rest a little before I have to go,then instead of a lot of practice I loosen up. I'll setup some easy shots (I do straight in) and focus on making the ball and my rhythm. This keeps me from thinking of what I've been working on and concentrating on making the balls while doing what I know (which isn't much :frown: ).

Preparation for league

Before I leave home for the bar I usually soak the lining of my stomach with a very good 90 proof Bourbon about 6-8 oz.
Then upon arrival at the bar I repeat the process.
That will usually get me through the session.

grow, but enjoy

fundamentals will give you what you're looking for when it matters. When the pressure's on, if you don't have solid fundamentals, you will fall apart. Inexperienced players will literally 'beat themselves' as opposed to 'getting beat' by the opponent.

There are plenty of ways to 'gain skill' and I am sure you will find a way. Remember to have fun and that will let you enjoy your time at the table. Until you have the tools necessary, focus on enjoying yourself, not just winning.
