hi.
i have a predator sneaky pete w/ a 314 (from 2006 i think) in great shape. someone wants to trade a custom cue that i really like made by a local cue maker who does great work. my problem is that i think i can sell the predator for more money if i choose to sell because predator is a well known brand. i guess what i want to know is - how can i have any idea how the custom cue would be worth to someone who is unfamiliar with the cue maker?

a pic is attached of the other guy's cue ( i think ).
the cue the other person has has about 6 narrow points made from bubinga and ebony. it has an ivory ferrule and some turquoise rings in both sides of the joint and one above and below the grip. grip is leather.

But,

It doesn't have the Predator shaft. If you can't adjust to the custom shaft, your out another, what, $230 for a new Predator shaft.

I wouldn't expect to get much more than $300 for the predator. I would expect the custom to be worth more than that with points/veneers/rings.

Maybe not much more, but I don't see it being worth less than 300.

Hit a few balls with a lot of spin with both cues and see how well you can adjust to the custom cue.

I would not trade based on value if that will be your playing stick.

However, that cue looks nice, if the work is clean and sharp and the finish is well done, you may have a ground-level cue of a future "name" in the business. If you can play with it, I'd do the trade.

it shoots well. cue maker is cameron matthys custom cues in kansas city.

you should do the trade. that cue is much nicer than a predator sneakie imo.

(im also factoring in that you like the way the cue plays.)

if you can play with it, I say trade.

A predator sneaky was the 2nd cue I ever played with. Went from there to a Schon, a Pechauer, and then customs. Never looked back.

Hate being limited to playing with LD shafts. Learn to play deflection and you can shoot with anything. Cue looks nice.

thanks for all the input. i think i might do it if he still has the cue.

i've actually been shooting with some low end mcdermotts and the predator has been sitting at home anyhow.

I have Pred 314 shafts matched to all my custom cues. Best of both worlds..!!!

Unknown cue makers cues are hard to sell especially in the current market. Cue buyers are smart to stick with well known custom cues and production cues if they want to get their money back if they ever decide to sell down the road. Name recognition is big when it comes to selling cues on the secondary market!

Trade or not?

Predator Sneaky's are relatively easy to find and usually go for 200 or less used, Customs will play differently, Cam uses top quality stuff for his cues and his points and ring work are extremely well done. I would make the trade. Can't by a CMC cue for 200 in KC unless its been abused badly. He has a good rep here in KC.

the last 2 predator sneaky petes to sell on ebay went for $314 and $259.

right now, jj cue is selling the following:
SP4RW Sneaky Pete, Wood Joint, 314-2 shaft $279.30

granted, you may have an 8pt sneaky with a wrap and a stainless joint, then you would be looking at about 450 new, if they weren't sold out.
