Hi guys,

Thought you might want an update on the event at Master's in Queens.

50 players showed, the majority were Pros/Opens.

Two big big matches were Shin Park vs. Mika Immonen & Tony Robles vs. Warren Kiamco. Both winner's side matches, Shin Park came out strong and took an early 7-3 lead I think. But Mika fought back and made it 8-7. Shin pulled it out in the end with a 6-ball miss by Immonen.

Again on the winner's side, Robles and Kiamco played spectacular pool that the crowd was clearly enjoying. For the first 10 racks neither missed a ball. Both broke and ran out. Kiamco's break was the first to fail him and Robles capitalized on it. At 8-6, Tony scratched on the break and Kiamco ran out to make it 8-7. A missed 3-ball by Kiamco let a perfect playing Robles close the match at 9-7. I really think each player MAYBE missed 2 to 3 balls the whole match.

I'm just going off my memory, but the remaining 12 I think are:

Undefeated:
Frankie Hernandez
Tony Robles
Shin Park
Scott Simonetti

1-Loss Side:
Mika Immonen
Kari Palohimo (Immonen) - Mika's Brother, plays jam up!!
Warren Kiamco
Jorge Rodriguez
Leo Li
Eddie Abraham
Joey Kong
???

Sorry, that's all I got.
Matches are starting at 2pm and winner's side matches are starting at 4pm. Frankie to play Scott, and Shin to play Robles. Shin's beaten Robles the last 7 times!!! I'm hoping for a new outcome! :) And we'll see if Mika has to play his own brother.

Hope you enjoyed.

Any women players?

S.

yes there were four. Liz Ford was playing well. Was down on Tim Edmonds I think 8-4 and came back to win it. I think she then was knocked out by Lionel Rivera. I then lost to Tim on the hill. Olga met with Robles early. And Emily Harrison was unfortunately knocked out by her own boyfriend. Tough match!:D

I think alot of people were out of town for the weekend. Good field for the weekend, but many were missing.

I was there was a few matches today. Heres what I remember seeing:

Winners Side:
Park beat Robles.
Hernandez beat Simonetti.

Shin Park went on to beat Hernandez to be in the hotseat.

Losers Side:
Kiamco beat Simonetti.
Immonen beat Robles

Immonen went on to beat Kiamco.

When I left, Immonen was playing Hernandez for other hotseat in finals.

Shin Park Wins Again at the Predator 9-Ball Tour Stop

In a very strong field of 50 players over Memorial Day Weekend at Master Billiards in Queens, NY, the Predator 9-Ball Tour hosted its 6th stop of the season. The event saw standout players such as Shin Park, Mika Immonen, Shaun Wilkie, Warren Kiamco, Frankie Hernandez, Matt Krah, Tony Robles and many others.

Day one action saw a number of tough matches in the early rounds. Robles and Wilkie faced off in round one and with an early 6-1 lead, Wilkie was sitting comfortably ahead but some missed balls and opportunities later let Robles sneaked in for the win 9-7. Also in round 1 action, Frankie Hernandez met up with Evan Broxmeyer. This match was all Frankie and Broxmeyer was sent to the 1-loss side early. Eddie Abraham and Shane Winters had a grueling match, but in the end, Shane pulled it out with a 9-6 win. Mika Immonen faced Shin Park in round 3 action. Both played great pool, but Park took the win 9-8.

As Day 1 ended, the final twelve were brought back for a chance at the top prize of $1,025. On the winner?s side, Frankie Hernandez battled newcomer to the tour Scott Simonetti in the quickest match of the day, lasting under an hour. The quick fires fought to hill hill and Simonetti looked to win the match with a killer safety on the 2-ball. But the unfazed Frankie kicked three rails to make an amazing 2-ball and run out for the 5-9 combination. Simonetti had a great tournament finishing out in 5th/6th place.

The common match up of Robles and Park was the other winner?s side match. Robles took an early 5-2 lead on Park, but again Robles? break proved inconsistent. Both struggled to make balls and Park managed to pull ahead and win the match 9-6.

On the 1-loss side, action saw Kari Paloheimo (Mika Immonen?s brother) against Warren Kiamco. Kari had been playing a great tournament and played strong against Kiamco, but a few errors too many by Kari let Kiamco take the set 9-6. Kiamco played great this event and finished in 4th place. Mika was also battling his way back through the chart. After the loss to Park, Mika came back to win his next six in a row including wins over Bobby Blackmore, Thomas Wan, Eddie Abraham, Tony Robles, and Warren Kiamco to face Hernandez in the semi-final match. Hernandez came out strong and took an early lead over Immonen, but Mika fought back with some great offensive shots and a few good rolls to win the match 9-4 leaving Frankie to settle for 3rd place.

The final was all Park. Immonen seemed to show signs of fatigue from the day?s battles and missed shots unexpectedly. Park capitalized and played some great pool earning a 9?5 win over the Iceman and winning the event. Congratulations to Shin Park for his second Predator Tour win of the season. He played impressive pool throughout the event and truly earned the win.

Gail, did you get to play? I hope Tony beats Shin this time. If not today, he will soon.

I play in most of the events. I played well but still went 2 and out. I mostly go b/c it's really good practice for me. Makes me elevate my game.

And NO Tony didn't beat Park. :( He will eventually, but that little jumping badass has just got Tony's number right now!!! LOL But in all honesty, Park was playing some great pool. He not only beat Tony, but beat Mika twice. That just isn't easy to do! He earned the win.

Thanks! for the update and info. You did a fine job summing up the tour results this weekend.

During the previous Predator tournament at SoHo, Tony lost to Park in the finals and he seemed a bit ticked. Apparently it was the 8th consecutive loss to Park in a tournament. He was going on about having beaten Mika 13 consecutive times in tournament play, but he can't beat Park a single time. It's funny how these things tend to happen.

In the mid 90's Tony lost 10 matches in a row to Ginky including one where he was up 8-1 in a race to 9. He took that better i believe. He is pretty flustered at the moment. But good luck to one of the NY greats.

Mika must be getting tired of second place.

Johnny double dipped him in AZ, Alex came back on him at the Masters, and now another second place where he seems to have faded in the last match.

Heh, he also finished second in the inaugural Predator Tournament, losing to Joey Testa in the finals.

If they would let me rep you again, I would!

GG,
Thanks for all the updates. I also went 2 and out, but it was good to see Matt Krah in the money. He dusted me in the first round, but it was a good experience for me. (and we had a few laughs along the way, he's a great guy.)
For this tour to be able to bring out 50 people on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend says a lot. It was great to be a part of it.

I'm convinced Shin's got a voodoo doll of Tony hanging in his apartment and he knifes at Tony's stroking arm before their matches!!! VOODOO is a *****!!! :D (JK)

Seriously, it'd be a good thread to start....how to beat you're seemingly unbeatable opponent? How to overcome the Kryptonite? I think most pool players have that certain opponent that they just can't seem to overcome and eventually, if they don't give up, they do. Tony told me about the time when Ginky beat him so many times in a row. But the interesting part of that story was that originally it was Tony who beat Ginky 10+ times in a row and Ginky got so frustrated that he practiced and practiced and practiced till he finally beat Tony and then it was Ginky in the driver's seat for a while. Guess that's what makes them pros. The unwavering desire to overcome the Kryp!!!

Hopefully Tony and Shin meet up again this weekend at Comet. I know Tony is dying for the rematch! Tony 0 Shin 8 ouch!

Thank you for always supporting us WIO2. You're a good source of laughter during the hectic sign ups for the events. Matt Krah plays great! Glad he came out to the event. I know you share my opinion on this but I just LOVE when I draw the big dawgs in these Predator events. I see my game elevate much higher and am usually surprised at how good I can play and how much I have learned. That's why I keep playing these events. I love the Tri-States and play in many of them, but when I play in this tour, I just seem to get more out of it ... except cash!! :) but you pay your dues!

See you this weekend!
