Predator Acros 2 ball set worse than original Cyclop set, for colorblind players

I found the worst ball set ever, IMO. The Predator Acros 2 set. Much worse than the Cyclop skittles set that had everyone confused on which ball is which. Why? The number is on only one side of the ball. The other side has a logo only, no number.

I just played in a tournament using this set for my first time. You would not believe how many times the balls landed so the number is face down. I was walking around the table with my head on the cloth like a fool to see the numbers to figure out my pattern. We all had a good laugh, including me. But I would not take this set if someone gave me 100 sets for free.

I suppose the same can be said with the just released Aramith 100 set with the number only on one side of the ball. I sincerely hope manufactures do not make this a trend! Ugh.

About 8% of the male population is colorblind, fyi. Quite a large chunk of population to design against. In most things it really does not matter. But in pool, knowing what ball is what at a glance is paramount to playing the game.

I emailed Predator customer support (CS) to let them know my thoughts. I rewrote the message to be super polite. CS got back to me and said they did a marketing study and this design was the top choice. I wrote CS back and said I agree, they look very pretty, and have great branding, but they lost a few steps in functionality. The CS rep said she would pass along my feedback to the design team.

Changing the color of balls is a bad joke. It’s a gimmick for TV and recreational players. That and yellow, orange and multicolored golf balls are insults to the traditions of both pool and golf. I don’t get it. I blame the manufacturer.

Changing ball colors diminish the game. Pure and simple a marketing gimmick that I abhor.
